hi yall I am proud to be descended from such a hardworking race of people. It was not only the women, however, that worked themselves to the bone. Men worked just as hard on the fishing grounds and in the woods. In the early settlement years of NFLD we saw the real equality of the sexes. I think everyone has that image of Newfies in their minds and that is why Newfie jokes do not bother me. Just because they (Newfies) may not have been as formally educated as a professor in Toronto they have such a

Hi Brian; My Ggrandfather was Isaac Eastman (Nov17,1847-Jan13,1933) of Woody Island and Lewin's Cove, Burin Bay Arm. Listers I have a question for Newfoundlanders who live/have lived in mainland Canada. Do you think there is less talking, sharing and joking among central Canadians ? My grandmother Taylor who had migrated to Canada with her husband between the Wars used to say "No one talks to you here! I might as well be talking to the fence post!" Have any of your own old people in mainland Canada ever complained of this? I am not knocking Ontario people I am one myself by birth. But still I am wondering about the lon

I agree Brenda, This is the first list server where I found that to be even mentioned. Part of the reason many of us do this is to find our "living" relatives. We had an acadian geleology summit last year in Cape Breton and it was great to meet those people you found through the net who were cousins.
