I have been looking for the Blow family in County Armagh for years. My
2nd great-grandmother Eliza Blow was said to have come from Markethill
(likely parish of Mullaghbrack) in County Armagh. Eliza was the
daughter of William & Mary (?) Blow. Ancestry's Irish Vital Records
show a marriage for a Margaret Blow who married Anthony Ormsby 16
December 1806 in Mullaghbrack, County Armagh. The Source is Parish
Registers of Mullaghbrack, Diocese of Armagh, County Armagh. Eliza
Blow also had a younger brother n

I am looking for information on the family of Colonel Verner (Vernor)
of Verner's Bridge in County Armagh. It may have had something to do
with the "Scotchman of Creggan" and the name MacMahon and being 'planted
there by the ruling King'.
His son, George, went to South Carolina, married a Donaldson, and had a
large plantation at Alhambra Creek, Burke County in the Province of
Georgie.
Colonel Vernor also had daughters; Alice and Jane (who died unmarried),
and when he died owned a lot of property.

I'm sorry listers,
I have been having a problem again getting my mail. It started last night
and seems to be continuing. I'm getting some, but not near as much as I
should be getting. If I have failed to respond to anything sent that
pertains to me, please re-send it again if you can and I will do what I can
to catch up. Otherwise, just know that I miss everybody! It's too quiet
here.

Dear Maureen,
The mormon church in the nearest town or city has a family history
library. They usually have computers with CDROM drives and microfilm
readers. They have various indices to their holdings which constitute the
largest genealogical collection in the world. For a nominal cost they will
send copies of their microfilm documents to the local church to be searched
and returned. Sometimes they will have a microfilm or microfiche
reader/printer to make copies of documents. You can get access
Hi List,
Weird things have been happening to our traffic for the last week or
more. I am finding messages in the digest which didn't come through on
the list.
One of these was from MsPnkRawkr@aol.com. To her or him...In the
Valuation Survey Index (1864 ) there were Keenans( Catherine) and
MConnells( 3 Robert, Sarah, Thomas, and William) in the town of Lurgan
in Shankill parish which is adjacent to Seagoe Parish where Lylo

I am new to the Northern Island/Down list, as I am just about to start
work on my mother's family having come to a temporary (!)dead end on
my father's family in Scotland.
My mother's parents were James CULL and Margaret HUGHES. James was
born about 1857, his father was also James Cull, a farmer, probably
from Lurgan. Margaret Hughes was born in 1862 in Ballynagarrick,
daughter of Thomas Hughes (also a farmer) and Mary Jane CALVERT. Many
of the Hughes were buried in Knocknamuckley, and James Cull and

A useful site - telephone directories worldwide. I used the German sites UK

useful with very common surnames.

part rather poor. Potatoes, oa

Sharon,
I have an Ann BELL who m.mid 1860s to James GRANT, resided in Lattery,
Armagh. James started out as Ch. of Ireland but is listed in the the 1901
Census as... you guessed it, Methodist - so maybe because of his wife's
family. Ann was the dau of Mathew BELL.
My line is descended from James' sister, Johanna GRANT. James, son of Isaac
GRANT & Mary HEARN, was a school master so he & Ann lived in a couple of
other places in Armagh as well.

Hi Launie,
I had the same feeling and question!!
It does seem like the usual Armagh list traffic has fallen through the
cracks somewhere. I was wondering athe same thing. I read where WorldCom had
a problem and it took them about 10 days to get back in business. AOL was
affected also. Lots of small ISPs may go out of business.

Hi everyone,
I'm new to this list and would dearly love to hear from anyone
researching the LONEY name.
My husband's gggrandparents were James LONEY (b. c1834 Kilmore, Armgah)
and Susannah MALLAN
(b. c1835 Kilmore, Armagh). They m. 1853 Kilmore and came out to
Australia in 1857 with their young daughter, Mary. I have not been able
to find out any further info. and hope someone out there may be able to
help.

Thank you, Glenda. The IGI has an entry that a Bridget Looney, same name as
my GG grandmother, came from Askeaton, County Tipperary. The year is not that
of my relative's birth.
There is a Tullyvallen Townland in Newtownhamilton Parish, County Armagh.

Re the name LOONEY:
Try checking out the Isle of man Genealogy page as there were many,
many families by the name of Looney that migrated from the Isle of Man
to the USA. The IOM and Northern Ireland are only a stone's throw from
each other and you may find a family connection. I always understood
the name LOONEY was from the Isle of Man - but it may also have been in
N. Ireland too.
Happy digging, Glenda
Many thanks for the several replies I had to my posting.
Dave Macaulay told me of the useful index at
http://www.ireland.com/ancestor/placename/index.cfm
which locates Civil parishes and Poor Law unions, but is there also
an index somewhere that shows civil parishes and
the townlands and church parishes within them? (I am finding
Northern Ireland quite difficult after Scotland, which is well
documented and indexed - but I think everyone does!).

Dear Ann Loney,
I know that my ancestors spelled the surname Looney and came to the state of
Michigan, to Jackson Co. The parents and children came about 1836 but from
what county of Ireland, I do not know. Many of these are buried in St. Mary's
Catholic Cemetery in Chelsea, Michigan, a town west of Ann Arbor. I am told
by some that they were from Tipperary. My GG grandmother, Bridget Looney, a
child of this famiily, first married John Donahue, in 1838; he died after
they had five chidren. Four yea
