Hi list; I'm looking for anyone that may be related to a VINT that came from Armagh, Northern Ireland. I have a few areas they may have came from - Loughgilly, Pointz Pass, Ballymore etc. from some kind people who found them in the Griffith Valuations etc. for me; but that's about all. If anyone has any info, especially prior to the 1830's about any Vint, I'd appreciate it. Mae Vint
4. Re: [NIR-ARMAGH-L] ADDRESS FOR ARMAGH ANCESTRY [1]
I have also corresponded with Grace Greer of Armagh Ancestry and found them to be very helpful. On her last letter to me dated May, 1998 there was an email address listed, as follows: ancestry@acdc.btinternet.com This email address may be out of date but it is worth a try. We were in Armagh in June 1997 but I did not realize they had a copy of the 1880 directory or I would have purchased it. My EASONS were from Armagh. 5. Re: [NIR-ARMAGH-L] N. Ire. Immigr. list 1847-171 [1]
Hi Nancy, I would be most grateful if you could check to see if there is a Richard John McCallan from County Armagh listed. He was born in 1850 and I do not know anything more than this! From the precious little I do know I would think he emigrated just before 1871. 7. Re: [NIR-ARMAGH-L] Sturgeon/England [1]
I am researching in Armagh and noticed you mentioned the 1851 census. I thought most of the records were destroyed, including Armagh. Is this census available for Armagh through the Family History Centers? I sure hope so. 8. [NIR-ARMAGH-L] Re: NIR-ARMAGH-D Digest V99 #75 [1]
Jaki I'll take what you've written to work and see if I can come up with anything else to help. I thought his death registration would have given place of birth, but obviously not. Tricky. We have other librarians who know more about British Isles research than I, so will ask. My main experience is Germany and Switzerland, although i am taking a journey into Scotland and Ireland with my partner's ancestors. 11. Re: [NIR-ARMAGH-L] Rice/Lennon/Crossmaglen [1]
Leo Many thanks for the information on Crossmaglen et al. It has given me more encouragement to continue with the search, which gets very frustrating some times. I have noticed the assistance you have provided to many of the listers over the months, and I'm sure it has been not only helpful to them, but to many others who receive the list. Again many thanks, and I could do with some of that heat you have to spare, although its really not that cold with a low of about 9 deg C in Sydney, after 10 years in
12. [NIR-ARMAGH-L] N. Ire. Immigr. list 1847-171 [1]
I have on loan a book called "Irish Passenger Lists, 1847-1871" by Brian Mitchell and will do look-ups. The name is misleading. The passengers left from the port of Derry and were almost exclusively from Northern Ireland. The majority were from Cos. Donegal, Derry and Tyrone. The other passengers were from Cos. Fermanagh, Antrim, Monaghan, Leitrim and Roscommon. A few strays may also be on the lists, but don't look for any from Munster (Cork, Waterford, Tipperary, Limerick, Clare and Kerry). The strays

14. [NIR-ARMAGH-L] Austins in Armagh [1]
Hi all, I am looking for info. on my family name AUSTIN. My great *4 grandfather, James Austin (1760 -18??), was born in Ireland and ultimately settled in Nova Scotia, Canada. He served in Lt. Col. Tarleton's regiment (on the side of the British) during the American Revolution. I think this unit may have been assembled in New York, which would mean he probably emigrated to America sometime during the 1770s. Although I do not know what county he came from, I know he was Presbyterian and that suggests h

16. [NIR-ARMAGH-L] O'Gorman [1]
Dear Heidi, Thanks for your reply re O'Gorman. I have not checked any US records as the family, at least my branch anyway, moved to England and not the US. However, I do have the death certificate for Owen Grimley - he died March 7th 1940 aged 87 years, in Trimdon, Co. Durham, England. I found him on the British 1881 census, living in Humble Lane, Wingate, Co. Durham, England, however it did not reveal where he was born in Ireland. I know from some family memoires that he came from Lurgan, Armagh, but w

My thanks to Ella Patterson from The Queen's University of Belfast. Through her past assistance, I was able to meet recently with the wife of a "Powell" descendant from Armagh who was in New York on a visit. We believe we are from the same family. My thanks also to the person who posted the UK phone book URL. I'm sure it will be quite helpful. John in Yonkers.
25. [NIR-ARMAGH-L] Creggan Cemetery-Crossmaglen [1]
My sister just returned from Ireland and from visiting Crossmaglen and the Creggan Church and Graveyard where she found the baptismal record of Michael RICE baptized 1861, son of John RICE and Mary Ann BREEN. She brought back a guide to the cemetery which was built in 1758 that has a surname index and a listing of tombstone inscriptions. If you are interested in seeing if your surname is listed, or if you are also researching RICE or BREEN in this area, please email me. sallia@aol.com
