Can anybody help me set off in the right direction with regards to tracing my Irish Family. Owen Grimley, born c1851, son of John. The family had trouble with the British Landlords over non-payment of rent, someone was killed and now being wanted men the family or part of the family had to flee the country. I am trying to track down a Letitia BLACK born about 1808, place unknown, but she married Edward MAGEE, they had a daughter Jane, born in Tanderagee, Co Armagh 1834. Dear Nancy, Hope your son's health is better now. I have a look-up request for County Armagh. My great great grandfather, David Gregg, was born there in 1812. Nothing more seems to be known about his family there. He was in Pittsburgh, PA by 1834. With your CD can you determine concentrations of a name in geographic areas within the County? To Mike Reed: My MCGINN ancestors were from Carnally which is in the civil parish of Creggan. They apparently came to NY state between 1845 and 1860. They settled first near Kingston (Ulster County) NY. Later to Yonkers (Westchester County). The similarity of names is interesting. Could they be variations of the same root name? Howard McGinn

Alex: Thanks for the reply, I am familiar with the memorial in the church. On my last visit to Ireland in 1998, I attended the service in the church and was took a picture of the memorial. Unfortunately the regular minister, Shawn Leland was away. I have a letter written by Rev. John to his nephew in the states and it was written in 1875, the year of his death and I figured he possibly could be buried in Lurgan or in Newtownbulter where the family came from. Today I just received a letter advising me of a relative buried in Shankill Cemetery, Lurgan. I have been trying for several years to locate the grave site. I am looking for my Irish ancestors. The surname I am looking for is Neilson, first name William. I know that he came from County Armagh to the U.S. anywhere between 1763-1791. I don't know his wife's name; she died on the voyage to America. They had five children, all born in County Armagh: James, Matthew, John, Anna and Margaret. Family rumor has it that my GGGparents came from Armagh. I am not sure of what county. What I do know is below: John Cassidy, RC, 27 yrs, arrived in Apr 1846 on board the Stephen Whitney in New York City. In Nov 1849, his wife, Margaret Laughlin Cassidy, dau of Thomas and Catherine Laughlin, arrived with 4 kids. Sue, if it is of any help Bassett's Directory 1888 in the Portadown section lists: McBROOM I., Derryhuncheon, Battlehill, Portadown. BLACK, G., Drumard P, Battlehill. BLACK, H., Drumard P, Battlehill (think that P indicates a sub Post Office) There is also a George BLACK at Knock, close to Portadown who received his mail from Gilford P.O. across the border in Co.Down. I have a marriage record for Joseph Black and Jane McBroom married 1851 in Kilmore, Armagh. However, it is hard to decipher the names of the places these two were born in.
