Judith,
One more point, the N/Ireland census for 1911 is also avaiable on film at
the LDS, so when you finally get access to your local one you should check
that out as well.
David.

Would either of you be able to give me any information about Arthur
McCloskey? He was born in Dungiven around 1825, left for USA about
1843 and lived as a grocer in Wilmington,Delaware. I am searching for
his origin and parents. I have been told that there are so many
McCloskeys with the same given names that it is an impossible task.
All his records in USA show "Ireland" only. I have had Ulster
Historical Society looking, R.C. Church and a letter in the Derry
Journal, all to no avail. And I think I
Hello Judith
As has already been mentioned the civil registration records would be a
good place to start and with Thomas Burke being in the army it should be
possible to obtain information on him from the Army records which are kept
at the Public Record Office in Kew. It can be useful to try and find out
about siblings of your ancestors as well. My gt. uncle Samuel EDGAR married
an Annie BURKE from Lisglass in Glendermott parish in 1884. Annie's father
was a Thomas Burke - obviously not your Thomas
Yes David, I found my own grt grandfather on the 1901 England and Wales just
before Xmas. You can get certain information without paying, but for
detailed information, of course you pay. The lady that runs the Elgin LDS
died last week so it could be a while before I can see a film. Thank you
once again for your interest.

Re-posting my interests again, just on the off chance.
Looking for a Stephen Henry married in Glendermott 1845.Born about 1828
and died before 1881. It's possible that he moved abroad after getting married,
but was back in Glendermott by 1855.
Also any HENRY'S from Glendermott. particularly if they had a connection
to Scotland i.e. Greenock Port Glasgow or Glasgow.

Hello Rita
As Betsy mentioned , the Heritage Centre in Bishop Street has fantastic
records and Brian Mitchell who runs it is very knowledgeable. I don't think
that you will be allowed to access the records yourself tho' but will have
to pay them a fee to do a search for you. It might be a good place to start
if you are unsure as to exactly where in Ireland events took place, but
think that there might be a Derry connection.. The Heritage Centre has a
huge database on computer of all kinds of records for fa
Sorry Wed,

All these people and events took place well after civil regitration.Births
and marriages would be available from Guildhall Londonderry. The marriage is
probably recorded in military records as well.Lizzie is short for
Elizabeth.Harry is short for Henry. It is EBRINGTON,not EBBINGTON.

Hi Dave
It sounds like your Smiths/Smyths and Burkes were at or near the townlands
of Killymallaght and Lisdillon, Glendermott parish, co. L'Derry.
I also think your "Cullion, Donegal" may be wrong, and that the reference
should read
"Cullion, co. Tyrone", i.e. the Cullion townland (in Donagheady parish)
which is adjacent to the
townland of Killymallaght and on the southern slopes of Killymallaght Hill.
(I have seen this error before, in Probate extracts given in the Wills
Index, where I could "prove" tha
Hi David
That would be brilliant - I can give you the EXACT details :-))
1) Ellen EDGAR (m/s HUEY/HUGHEY) died at 39 Orchard Row 13 May 1879
2) Robert EDGAR, died at 39 Orchard Row 17 December 1902
I think they are likely to be in the City Cemetery and maybe the details
have somehow not got on to the database at the Heritage Centre or perhaps
been typed in wrongly - I mean, where else would they be? I am going to try
writing myself to the Cemetery and see if I get any joy. In Glasgow if you
can provide

Hello All,
I feel I owe the list an apology, on looking back at my first email, it seems I did indeed state Ebington instead of Ebrington. My mistake in causing the confusion. Thanks to you all for trying to help a- brain dead old girl. That is what comes from head banging in frustration. Sorry.

Hi All,
I am a native of Londonderry. I was born very close to Ebrington
Presbyterian Church which is directly opposite Ebrington Barracks.
These are the two establishments that Judith is looking for. It was common
for soldiers in the barracks to meet and eventually marry local girls and
marry there. My wife's g/grandfather served there with the artillary and
married a local girl at Ebrington church.
Relevent certificates can be looked up at your local LDS family history
centre,and the soldiers surn

Sorry, I only have street addresses for the city of Londonderry, the other
towns simply trade directories etc which I cannot search for individual
names.

Greetings Ian:
I've been wanting to write to you, so I will reply to this message before I
postpone my inquiry any further. I am wondering if you have found any
MOWBRAYs in 1. the Tithe Applotment Books 1823-1838 or 2. the Irish Flax
Growers List 1796?
I hope this note finds you well. Any more news about the Mowbrays in Cumber?
