Hello Liam
Thanks very much for the reply. Good to hear from you again.
I've been away from this branch of the family tree for awhile. I certainly
appreciate your sending along the list of addresses again. The previous

Hello Catherine,
According to the 1826 Tithe Applotment Book for Tamlaghtardmagilligan
a Patrick McLaughlin and a widow Sarah McLaughlin were living in Oughtymoyle
in that year.
On the other side of the Limavady to Downhill Road opposite Oughtymoyle in
the townland of Duncrun was a James and a John McLaughlin.
Unfortunately (for your research) McLaughlin is a fairly common name in that
part of the World.

Sheri,
The Church of Ireland was the Established Church of Ireland until the 1870s.
You will see it referred to in some records as E.C. Its practices were
essentially those of the Church of England.
In the 1800s this church was number three in terms of numbers of followers
in the North of Ireland, behind both the Roman Catholic church and
Presbyterians.
As you probably know, many Church of Ireland records were destroyed in 1922
at the Public Record Office in Dublin. The proportion destroyed has been

Looking for information on my GG-Grandmother, Elizabeth Rose "Bessie" Trainor, from Draperstown. The information I have is as follows:
1880 Census:
She was 22 years old and her occupation was keeping house in Mercer County, Kentucky. She was married to Jerry Boyle and they had a 1 year old son, John Boyle. Her father, John Trainor, a 70 year old retired Gate Keeper, lived with them as well.
1900 Census:
She and Jerry Boyle were living in Louisville, KY. She was 49 years old having been born in Dec 1850.

It has been several months since I posted this and thought I would repost it in the event there may may perhaps be new list members that could help.
The 1858/59 Griffith's Valuation lists the only Windel in all of Londonderry as Jonas Windel. I believe him to be a gggrandfather on my mother's side. He was the father of a Joseph C. Windel, a tailor who came to Canada in 1879 at the age of 17. I am trying to find out any other family connections I can.

I am planning to come to Ireland later this year to research the Irish side
of my family history. I am experienced family historian in England but
this will be virtually my first foray into Irish genealogy and to say that
I'm confused over churches/cathedrals in Derry city is putting it mildly...
I should appreciate local knowledge in helping me confirm the following
churches. To complicate matters, my forebears appear to have belonged to
both Catholic and Church of Ireland faiths.

Hello listers,
Regularly there are enquires from researchers trying to identify either the
spelling or location of a townland.
We have a complete townland database freely available listed by County,
Parish and Townland which you can find at
www.ulsterancestry.com/ulster_townlands_by_county
or go to www.ulsterancestry.com and click on the "Townlands of Ulster"
button.
I think many will find it of value.

I can't find Aughtamore in
www.seanruad.com as a townland.
If you look at the PRONI list of parishes
http://www.proni.gov.uk/geogindx/parishes/index.htm#t
you will find the following parishes with their respective townlands.
Tamlaght
Tamlaght Finlagan
Tamlaght O'Crilly
Noneof the townlands sounds like Aughtamore- even allowing for mis-spelling.
The first two parishes also contain a townland called Tamlaght.
I think I'd be tempted to start with those two townlands and eliminate from
there.

Hi
I have just received a certified copy of Birth Cert of my great Uncle
John McLaughlin born in 1876. The birth was registered in the District
of Bellarena Limavady. It doesn't actually show a place of birth but
his father, James McLaughlin is the informant and gives his residence as
Aughtamore, Tamlaghton. Please excuse my lack of knowledge but I get
very confused with place names in Ireland. Would Aughtamore be a
townland? I tried a google search but didn't have any luck. There seem

There must be differences in ecuminical definitions, but my broader take is
it is the Irish version of the older Church of England.
Better understanding is certainly welcome.

Hello listers,
Some time ago I posted a request about Catholic churches and received two answers. The Churches named are: St Johns, St Malachy and Killowen St John. I'm guessing the two with 'St John' in the name are one and the same. My aunty is currently on her way to the UK, including Ireland, and is going to do some searches for me. If anyone can confirm these churches and their location I would be very grateful.
Many thanks

I wonder would anyone recognize the following McGorry_McVey families believed to be from Tamlaght/Ballinderry parishes, Co.Derry/Tyrone border?
McGorry (McGorrery, etc)_McVey (McVeigh, etc)
Rose McGorrery (1789 - 1883) married John McGlade (1786 - 1866) of Tonaght, Ballynascreen, Co Derry and they lived in Tonaght and had 8 children. (I'm a descendent of this line)
Rose's sister, --?-- McGorrery, married McVey and they are believed to have lived in Ballinderry - the Tyrone side of Lough Neagh.

What denomination is it? Is it still referred to by taht name?

Hallo everyone
Does anyone have a connection to John McLAUGHLIN who appears on 1831
Census for Londonderry in townland of Oughtymoyle, Parish of

My great grand father is James McLAUGHLIN b c1846 in Derry (very

and had two children Alice & Mary born in Philadelphia. But the next
child, a son named John was born in Oughtymoyle, Co Derry in 1876. The

Dear Maureen,
St Columba/St Colm Cille is the patron saint Derry so there are a lot of
churches in the Derry area dedicated to him. All three you mentioned are
separate churches. I have only heard of one Christ Church in Derry. I you
need more info on any the churches mentioned -location/pics let me know.

Hello list , My question for today is : As there are no known Catholic
records for the time of 1780 - 1810 ish , Would it be possible the record I
look for would be stashed in some Church of Ireland book somewhere ???? ,
IE ; the birth of James Lenox on May 14 1783 in Derry , and others !! ,

Rita,
Each Roman Catholic parish kept its own records, and each had a different
starting date.
There is no nationwide index to the pre civil registration records, so you
really need to know the parish to progress further.
I have a suggestion or two that may help you.
First, if you haven't already done so , check the IGI at
www.familysearch.org
where you may find the birth or baptism record of Wm Fitzgibbon. If you find
it, you will then need to check the data against the original record.
If you don't
