1. [NISHNAWBE] Haldimand, Ontario [1]
Some of the early residents of Haldimand were of German extraction and had migrated from Pennsylvania ... came across this in side research of my G Aunt's second husband ... Furry, Zavitz, Chalmers were some of the names I remember. The Wainfleet Public Library used to have some information on local families. There are also some cemetery transciptions on line that I have come across. Might want to try a Google search... Hope it helps, Diane Sheppard

Hi all. My brick wall is Chief Ca she o sha/Kasheoshe. He signed the 1842 Treaty at LaPointe. He is from Lac Vieux Desert. First mention I have found of him is in 1840 when he made a treaty with Thomas Cram a government survey sent to survey the Wisconsin/Michigan border. Then again when he negotiated with William Burt, another government surveyor, who went to the Michigan area in 1847. He did not sign the 1854 treaty for Lac Vieux Desert so I believe he probably had died before then. I have an

Hi, I find this very interesting. I have a feeling some NAs are still holding some halfbreeds in higher consideration than others. I have just started looking for info on how blood quantum was decided. I am fighting or I mean trying to convince the tribe that the rules need to be changed to reflect descendants with less than 1/4 quantum. Any proof you can send my way is highly appreciated. There are so many errors from the old days it should be criminal. I found my great Uncle counted twice on the

A book I'm reading discusses the Ottawa-Chippewa Treaty of Washington in 1836: "An additional $150,000 was set aside to pay Metis in lieu of reservations.
