Does anyone know if the burial records for Gate of Heaven Cemetery
(Roman Catholic Archiocese of Newark), East Hanover, NJ are kept by
burial date or by name?
I would very much appreciate it if someone would look up John Sharkey in the
1880 census. His wife was named Bridget and he would have been approx. 27
years old (give or take a year). They lived in Bayonne (Hudson County).
They would have had a couple of kids at this time and they both came from
Ireland.
Thank you,
Deanna
Thanks to all who requested obit lookups. I may be offering again in
November or so - when I get a break from teaching!
I emailed you if I looked for your requests. If I didn't, it means I
didn't get a chance yet.

Hi Guys
Just me again.....wondering...I am not accustomed to the American death certificates....when it asks....parents names is it customary for them to put the mothers' maiden name in there or her married name?? This family seems to be quite happy to stay within its own boundaries.....smile.....
It states father George Patrick and mother Mary Patrick....
sometimes here in Canada it states the mothers maiden name and sometimes it doesnt....but with this family.....it wouldnt surprise me to learn it was

Your local public library probably can search OCLC Worldcat, where I found

Jane,
I tried to access the PATH website, but I guess their server is down
(http://www.panynj.gov/).
I did find some 1969 - 1972 photos of the Harrison Station at the first
listed website below. It brought back memories of the timeframe I lived in
town. Don't tell anyone, but I knew of some kids who would go up the exit
stairs, brave the passing trains and dangerous third rail, to cross over to
the opposite side to catch a free train ride to NYC. I hope you'll find
some useful information below.

Thanks to all who replied to my message! I'll follow your advice and write
to them instead of calling.
Thanks again!

I had my sister call there today and she said they were very nasty to her.
How would you get records from this cemetery if they are so uncooperative?

Does anyone have a map available to look up three addresses to find the EDs
for the 1910 census? I'd really appreciate it, if this is at all possible,
as the other alternative is for me to go through TEN films! Any help is
greatly appreciated. The addresses are 637 Garden St., 731 Clinton St., 57
6th St.
Best wishes,
Janet

Subject: 1920 Census not mine
Hi Cousins...
I received this lookup for 1920 NJ Census lookup requested. They are not mine & thought perhaps someone else could use it.
1920:
Joseph L Matthews 43 NJ
27 Osborne St
Keyport, Monmouth, ED#109 sht 6 line 11
Eva, w, 41 , b NJ
Herbert, s, 19
Clifford, s, 16
Chester, s, 22
Julia, dl, 22, NY
also:
1920 Frank MATTHEWS, 39, born NJ
22-1/2 W.
I have a diary of my grandfather's from 1910 that covers a 9 month time
span. He mentions many persons names within the diary. He lived in Jersey
City at that time and often went to Hoboken and Bayonne. The following is
a list of the last names that are mentioned. Please contact me if you have
an ancestor with the last name and and I will let you know of any reference
he makes within his diary.
Hopgood, Troy, Forster, Baughan, Hatfield, Strow, Merikles, Carney, Higley,
Ackerson, Doherty, Van Hill
I have a marriage certificate of John G. ROBINSON age 23 to Ellen Isabella
JACKSON age 22. They were married in Jersey City in 1879.
Groom's parents: John ROBINSON and Jane ROMER (last name difficult to
read)
Bride's parents: none listed
Contact me if you would like a copy of this certificate.

Is there some kind person that has access to the 1860 and 1870 census for
Hoboken, NJ? I have 2 names that I would like to have looked up including
the page numbers.
Thank you in advance,
Amy
I know this is a long shot, but I'm looking for a distant relative,
Dorothy Stubaus (nee Dolce) who was born 1919, JC, and I believe lived
in Bayonne as recently as 1977. If anyone knows this lady, please
contact me. Trying to piece together the ancestors of my Henry and Dora
Sommers' line.

Hi everyone,
Since many people researching in New Jersey find that their ancestors resided
for a short time in New York City or perhaps entered the US through NY, this
may be of help. I've created a website to aid researchers in the New York
City and Brooklyn areas.
http://www.gaeleire.freeservers.com
The site is still under construction. I'm uploading new information daily!
This site is not surname specific. It's just helpful information I've
gathered over the years.
Also on my site is a free b
Thanks for correcting me, I did not even notice that I had typed in 1990
instead of 1900. To repeat my original email, I am looking for Julian
Kacherski in the 1900 census. He lived in Bayonne, Hudson County.
Thanks,
Deanna
I hope that someone can help me. Finally, after FOUR months, I did receive
from Trenton, the death certificate of a family member that I had requested.
Can someone who might have records of the Holy Cross Cemetery, give me the
names of any SCHNEPFs buried there? I know that Charles F. SCHNEPF, Sr. is
buried there--he died Oct. 31, 1966. Probably also a Mary Ellen SCHNEPF whom
I assume is his wife (or daughter?), gave the info at the death of Charles
SCHNEPF.
If no one can help me with the above,
In November 2000 I wrote to the NJ Secretary of the Masonic order to ask
for information about my grandfather. I included as much information about
the lodge, my grandfather's age, etc. as I could. In a short time I
received a reply that gave his address dates of birth and death and date of
entry into the Masonic order. The reply appeared to be a photostat of the
information that the order had on hand.
The address to which I wrote is:
M. W. Raymond P Bellini, Sr.
Grand Secretary

The Hudson Observer obituary for my great grandfather, courtesy of Marcelle
of solidgold@home.com fame, partially reads:
"Relatives and friends, also members of Keystone Lodge No 235. F. and A. M.
of New York: Zemzem Grotto, No 16, M. O. V. P. E. R., Lackawanna Veterans
also Clan McLeud No 70 of Jersey City and Hoboken Ferrymen's Association are
respectfully invited to attend funeral services at his line residence..."
Keystone Lodge, I believe, is Masonic in Hoboken
F and AM of New York: Zemzem Grott
Hi Cousins...
I need to find out information regarding the 1870 Federal Census, NJ, Hudson, Jersey City:
Were there Enumeration Districts used or was it just Wards in 1870?
When I was in the archives in May I noted on a piece of paper, which I just found, the following:
MORAN< Michael & Julia
3rd ward Jersey City page 170
and: 12 ward Jersey City page 453.
So, anyone that knows about or has used 1870 census, if you can tell me, I'd appreciate it as I would like these two listings looked up, but not su
Oh--I didn't realize there is a town of "Union" in
Union Co. Yes, I was referring to Union City in
Hudson Co.
Thanks,
Robin
