I would like to hear from anyone researching families who lived on Cator

Can anyone tell me the names of the public high schools in existance in
Jersey City around 1940?
Do these schools usually have alumni depts that keep yearbooks, etc.?
Thanks for any clues

Diane,
The Indian River Library (Vero Beach, FL) has all the NJ Census through
1870, and indexes if available. They also have all (or almost) all of
the back issues of the GMNJ and Indexes for those as well. In addition,
they have a large selection of NJ books. Since many who came to
Northern NJ from Orange Co., NY and CT I might add that they have the
New York Genealogical & Biographical Records on Microfiche, and the
entire Barbour Collection on microfilm.

Does anyone have an information source for someone who might have been a
Boxer around the time of World War I?
Family sources say Thomas Joseph Teague (b. 1885) only boxed while in the
Navy, where he was the Middle Weight Champion of the
Atlantic Fleet.
He lived in Bayonne at the time of his marriage around 1917. I have
searched newspapers for titles in the sports sections from this time period
but found nothing. However, my research time was limited. Does anyone
know of any archive that might have in

Hi all,
I have decided that I can no longer keep Sussex County NJGenWeb.So, with
this in mind, I will be catching up with this county before working
further on Hudson, Pasaaic, and Essex counties. Available, at this
time, is the Sussex county NJGenWeb page and its associated mailing
list.
As soon as I catch up with this county and turn it over to someone else,
I will begin work on another county that will then also become available
for adoption.
Contact me for further details if you would be interes

City Directories are Reference books.
Reference materials are never loaned.
Sometimes they have been reprinted and are available for purchase.
You will never find them loaned.
I have never been able to find anything on my grandfather, Harry GORDON
(born March 3, 1895) He said that he and his parents were all born in
Jersey City. He said that the courthouse burned down and there was no
record of his birth. He said he was christened Catholic, but the church
burned down and there were no records. He also claimed to have been an
amateur boxer. His parents were Stanley GORDON and Elizabeth "Betty"
Ryan GORDON. Can anybody help? I have looked everywhere and haven't
found them. I
Hi everyone,
I need some help from someone..I would like to try and find out all of
the NJ resources that they have in the Allen Public Library..and any
other large genealogy library you can think of.
I would like to separate some of these so that people from out of state
know where they can go to do NJ research..some place that might be
closer to them than here.
There is a library in Atlanta that has a lot of NJ stuff..and I believe
that in Orlando, Fla..they at least have all the nj census.
If any of
Hi everyone... Happy St. Patrick's Day!
My ggrandfather, Wm. J. BUNNELL, died c1893 in Jersey City. Can anyone
tell me what newspapers would likely carry obituaries for JC back in the
1890's?
Thanks... Jackie bunny-jo@webtv.net
Does the name SHIANTNER ring any bells with Hudson co. researchers?
When I found my great uncle's grave in Bayview/NY BAY Cemetery in Jersey
City the cemetery card said:
Thomas Joseph Teague, aka T.J. Shiantner. This puzzled me.
There was an incident in the family which may have caused it to break up.
Maybe Thomas went to a household called
Shiantner to live. I have searched the 1900 and 1920 census for Shiantner
and variations of spellings with no luck.
Thomas was also a champion boxer so I thought i
Is anyone researching the Sullivan family in Jersey City/Bayonne?
George Aloysius Teague/Tague m. Mary Ann Sullivan in Jersey City/Bayonne
abt 1919. Mary Ann was the daughter of Jeremiah Sullivan. Their child Rita
was born 1920. Mary Ann died shortly after childbirth and is buried in
Holy Name cemetery in Jersey City.
I am trying to find out what happened to baby Rita. Family sources say
they "think" she lived to adulthood. I am wondering if she went to
George's family and anyone researching the Sulli
I have just noticed that there is a Hunterdon County Mailing list
you can join by going to this URL:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~maillist/us/index.html
Check out the other lists that Rootsweb has to offer while you are
there. Also, consider becoming a sponsor of Rootsweb..they provide these
lists and the space for the county websites free to the genealogical
community and exist solely on the contributions of those that decide to
become sponsors.

This is a continuation of my previous post, in which I described how I have
been unable to obtain Hudson Co. Courthouse records from 1899. Sorry! I
just realized that I have additional info I should have included.
The incident occurred in the Fifth Precint (1899-Cator Avenue). The
hearing of the charge of murder took place in the "Second Criminal
Court".Would having this info help me find the records?
Thank you,

Hi everyone...
Does anyone know if the "Story of New Jersey" (Lewis Hist Pub Co-1945)
mentions specific families? Still looking for BUNNELL's in Jersey

I want to give a status report on my NJGenWeb county sites.
As you all know I am far behind in my posting of queries and surnames.
I did not work at all on the pages from October until March 1. I had
over 2000 messages to process in the beginning of March. I get, on a
weekly basis, 150 to 200 emails pertaining to the 4 counties I control.
I have been working on updating the pages, having worked on Hudson and
Essex mostly. There is much more work that needs to be done to get
these pages up to par.

Dickinson High School. The address is Wm. L. Dickinson High School, 2
Palisade Avenue, Jersey City, New Jersey 07306. She sent me copies of the
high school records for three relatives. Very helpful!!!

Hi all,
If anyone could make a list of Hudson County newspapers and the territories
that they mainly covered and the years that they operated, I would include
them on the Hudson County web site. In fact if you are doing in and have
info on Essex County, Sussex County and Passaic County and could make
separate lists for those counties...I would really appreciate that too.
