Susan,
The "Calendar of Wills" is a 13-volume subset of the "Archives of New
Jersey, First Series." A sample full title is "Documents Relating to the
Colonial, Revolutionary and Post-Revolutionary History of the State of New
Jersey / First Series--Volume XLII / Calendar of New Jersey Wills,
Administrations, Etc. Volume XIII - 1814-1817." Despite the title page,
the title on the book's spine is "New Jersey Archives" and "Abstracts of
Wills." The wills are organized by years, but not by month or day. Each
The Locktown (Presb) Church Cemetery is a good possibility. It's close to
Kingwood Twp., and there are several Carrells there. Samuel Arnwine Carrell
is there, with wife and several children. One in particular is Elisha
Warford Carrell.
I'll take a look in the next couple of days.

Dear Susan,
I checked the archives and the last activity for the list was on July 28
which is a little over a week ago. If you were getting mail up until then, you
are obviously still on the list.
If it has been longer than that, then you are indeed missing some emails.
You can go to the list archives to determine what mail, if any you are
missing. This list, like most, goes through periods where the activity is intense
for awhile, and other periods where nothing is going on at all.

Chris,
I'm fairly sure this was the Amwell German Reformed Church that was located
at Larison's Corner:
This website refers to the "Old Dutch Burying-ground" ... Peter YOUNG's
"remains were interred by the side of his wife's in the old Dutch burying
ground at Pleasant Corner...."
http://www.njsuttonfamily.org/Newspaper/jan1879.htm
Larison's Corner had previously been called Pleasant Corner:

This church is now the United First Church of Amwell:

Roz,
I wish I had a dollar for every BELLIS name I typed while transcribing the

I am trying to find the parents of ABRAHAM ALLEN (my ggreatgrandfather) born in 1770 in Hunterdon Co., NJ and married MARGARET BELLIS born in 1774. They were married in 1794. I am wondering if his father could be CHARLES ALLEN, but have no proof. There is a CHARLES ALLEN born 1744 in Hartford CT. Would anyone have any connection to this family? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The families of HOLCOMBE and EMLEY are interrelated.
I have John B. HOLCOMBE and Elizabeth WOOLRICH with a
son Samuel HOLCOMBE. Samuel m. Eleanor BARBER.
This couple also had a son named Samuel H. HOLCOMBE
who m. Sarah EMLEY, the daughter of Elisha EMLEY and
Ann ATKINSON, and the stepdaughter of Richard HOLCOMBE.
I did not have a Robert EMLEY in my files, so I don't know
where he fits in.

This is definitely an error on Ancestry's part if your looking at their
pages. Don't know where they came up it but through my Sutton research for
this area the place is either Tewksbury Township or Lebanon
Township. Again there is no such place that I know (unless it is a named
farm area given by a Bennett family that was carried over). In early
Virginia many area were given exotic names for plantation, farms, etc.
Probably need to address this error to Ancestry.

List,
An advertisement item in an 1861 Hunterdon Gazette claims to have placed
more than a thousand ornamental cases containing Daguerreotype photos of the
deceased on Head Stones and Monuments in Greenwood Cemetery and Laurel Hill
Cemetery.
Claims they would last "for a long number of years".
Has one observed these cases?

thanks go out to Bruce Dow, who provided website address for The Green-Wood
Cemetery in Brooklyn, NY. It is: www.green-wood.com. Some very interesting
facts:
1) It was founded in 1838 as the third rural cemetery in America.
2) In the 19th Century it was one of America's leading tourist attractions.
3) There are lots of guided and unguided 'self-tours' available. They
feature the following: arboretum, wildlife sancturary, sculpture garden,
plus architecture and landscape design.

Richard,
In the Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Alexandria, I observed an old
ambrotype (glass) image attached to a monument. The small metal
two-piece encasement is attached to the headstone with masonry screws.
The image is housed within a rubber seal. Due to age and climate, the
seal is brittle and broken and the image is destroyed by moisture.
I believe dags can date back to the 1850's. Even when well-cared for,
they develop a distinctive "halo" patina and deteriorate over time.

Sharilyn,
It sounds like we are researching the same tree. You stated you were a
"newbie," & I might have some information which can help you. Who knows, you might
be able to help me. Please contact me directly & we can "talk."
John Holcombe & Elizabeth Woolrich were my husband's 7th great grandparents.
Hope to hear from you soon.

I'm amazed there are so many with the same name. Glad I asked.

I am looking for info on a MORRIS CULVER b. Jan. 26, 1798, died April 24,1884. Married to Sarah (Cool?). Lived in Lebanon Township. I'm looking for any info on his ancestors-parents-where he was born? I cannot find him inany of the Culver genealogy. Thought he might be related to Simon Culver who married Jemina Tuttle, but have no proof. I have hit a brick wall with Morris. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Sharilyn,
You might find additional information on your Quaker family at Haverford
College Quaker Collection in Haverford, PA (suburb of Philadelphia). They
hold the Orthodox Quaker records for that area. One unique holding of theirs
is the "Dictionary of Quaker Biography," which is a typescript on individual
Quakers. Many people do not know about it. Good luck

That is probably a good guess, however, they are not listed as being buried
there. Daniel Carroll, her first husband, is buried there and yes, they are
Elizabeth Opdycke Arnwine's daughters who married John Arnwine.

It appears that the Bowlby Family site is indeed offline. A check of the "whois" data base says
that this domain is in the "Transfer" status. Hopefully it will be available again soon.
You can find some of the transcripts by doing a Google search on Musconetcong Valley. If you do an
advance search and limit the domain to bowlbyfamily.org you will find some of the pages. You need
to look at the google cached page, not the entry.
