I believe that ESQ is an abbreviation for "Esquire", a title of
respect. I once believed that this was given only to large land
owners or to those of civil offices. However, this appears on one of
my ancestor's gravemarker and I've been unable to find him being more
prominent than to have fulfilled the role of Justice of the Peace for
a short time in his community...in fact, after pretty significant
research over a period of years can't even find anything on his
"roots" prior to going to Otsego Co, NY c17

Hello Ron,
I have checked on the marriage of Adam Hummer, b. 26 Dec 1781, who marr. 11

Somerset County NJ, who d. Jan 1788 in Lebanon Twp, Hunterdon Co., NJ. His

Anyone here have any specific recollections of Mart Holcolmb who was
apparently an adult resident of the Lambertville area around the turn of

William B. Cruise (1902-1984), a native of Lambertville, the son of Bartley

I wasn't any more than eight years old, I guess, when
my brother Tom and I went out in the country to get a

Re: the DuMonts. I have the DuMont history back into France, but haven't
researched the NJ branch yet. If you have the NJ infomation, I'd love to
have it. My dad was an Ulster Co, NY DuMond. We have his line back to
immigrant Wallerand duMont who came over as a soldier with Pieter

grandsons or greats was the duMont who settled in NJ.

Hi there. I have just started to put up some transcriptions/scans of family
letters/legal documents. Most of the information concerns the Stryker family
of White House Sta., Hunterdon Co., NJ from about 1830-1900. Perhaps it will
be of use to others, however, who are researching.

I don't know that the genealogy is still in print; they have it in
Flemington and they have it in NEHGS in Boston, and probably in the LDS
library. It's called, as I recall, the Opdyck Genealogy :-)
The information I gleaned from the Hunterdon Co. Historical Society library
in Flemington about the Hummer line has Adam Hummer coming probably from
Oberhumrich, Parish of Honnefeld, Neuweid Duchy (Lower Palatinate), German,
and probably emigrating ca 1726 to Philadelphia with his brother Harberet.

Peter and Jerusha DEREMER SWEAZEY had a son Joseph Sweazey (b 2 May 1860 in
Union Twp., Hunterdon Co.), who was killed by a train in Boundbrook, NJ. He
was alive for the 1870 census--still in Union Twp.
Where do I look to find more info on this train accident? Were there any
newspapers that might have had an article on it (and is there any possible
"easy" way to figure out when it happened)?
Also, I'd like to know if there is any public transportation going from NYC

you have this information? If not, I will send you photocopies of what I

I just received a note from Mrs. Jean O. Dreher in response to my inquiry
about the Opdyke Genealogy. Here is her answer:

original 1889 deluxe version. I have added some updating at the back of the
book on my own line and that of two others."

I just read in the July/August issue of the "National Genealogy Society

information about farms: name of owner, manager, acres, cash value,
horses, cows, mules, etc. The amount of oats, tobacco, cotton, etc.
