I have a copy of an orphan's court file listing Charles Gano as Guardian for the children of Hiram Mettler. The children Martha Ann, Mary Maria, John and William Henry Mettler. The guardianship papers were filed in 1855. What I would like to determine is what relationship Charles and Samuel Gano may have had to these children. Dear Hunterdon Co. Folks, I am trying to find the parents of Moses Carpenter, b. about 1750, maybe Jamaica, NY. He is reported to be the son of John Carpenter and Ruth Coe of Jamaica - I cannot find any proof of this. He married Elizabeth Runyon, dau of Richard and Anne (VanCourt) Runyon who were apparently living in Morris Co. NY about 1774 when they would have married. Hunterdon County Naturalization records have been published in various sources, including the Records of Old Hunterdon County, vols I and II, and More Records of Old Hunterdon County, Vol. I, compiled by Phyllis D'Autrechy and editied by Roxanne Carkhuff. Only immigrants from non-English speaking countries were considered aliens prior to the Revolution. Citizenship was required to purchase land, and to vote (if you were not female).
