Elisabeth HOFFMAN was a daughter of John and Elizabeth (YOUNG) HOFFMAN. She first married Conrad LOMMISON (Lomerson, Lamerson, etc.) and after his death in 1814, she married Garret COVENHOVEN on Dec. 20, 1819.
Does anyone have information about this second marriage?
If anyone has ready access to the Hunterdon County (and perhaps the Morris County) index to wills, could you please see if there is a will for either Elisabeth or Garret Covenhoven? (They also seem to have gone by the surname Conover)

I am descended from JONATHAN PHILLIPS m. 11/7/1812 MARY SMITH. I have confirmed that his parents were LOTT and ELIZABETH PHILLIPS. His death certificate lists his parents as such. But more recently, I have confirmed this through several 1820 deeds between JONATHAN's brothers, they disposed of LOTT's land in Amwell. These deeds note that LOTT PHILLIPS died without a will and I have not uncovered any inventory or other intestate materials regarding LOTT. The WINDER-PHILLIPS BURAL GROUND lists a LOTT dying

Where did you find the map? I've been looking for a similar map of Morris

Judith,
The HCHS library was open on Dec. 26th during the day, and would have
been open 7 to 9 also but lack of manpower prevented it. On Jan 2, Roxanne
Carkhuff will be there during the day and evening 1 to 3 and 7 to 9 pm.
unless it snows and then it closes.

Brian,
I was lucky enough to find the signature of my ancestor on a 1827
petition for a Jacob Johnson to open an tavern in New Hampton, NJ. There
is a signature of a Richard Rounsaville on the same page. If you are
interested in that signature let me know and I'll get you a copy.
Someone was kind enough to send this to me, however, I do not know where
it came from. Perhaps there is someone out there who knows where this
type of record would be kept. Paula

Hi Mary,
If my memory is correct, during the War of 1812 the British burned parts of
Washington, DC and census records for many states were the victims of this
burning. Perhaps someone else has more facts than this.

Hi Bill,
Don't know if this will help you, but I am indexing the Hunterdon Gazette

Prior to 1830, censuses were archived with US District Courts. In 1830,
Congress passed a law requiring their transfer to the Library of Congress.
Lost during the War of 1812 were the statistical abstracts of the censuses
that were stored in Washington.
While some of the census records were lost by "courthouse fires" in various
districts, others just disappeared. Other than the Flemington Courthouse
fire of 1828, I'm not aware of any NJ Courthouse fires of this period.

Applications for tavern licenses are a great place to find signatures.
I believe all tavern licenses issued in Hunterdon County, NJ from 1821 to
1907 are kept in a records warehouse (County Complex, Building 5A) on
Route 12. I was told it costs $1 per page for copying requests via mail.
You might want to call 908-806-4150 and talk to Larry Green before
ordering.
A copy of the license should be obtainable by writing to:

Hello,
I am a new subscriber to this listserve and am trying to find information concerning my New Jersey ancestors.
I am looking for any information I can find concerning Henry Swesey (Swezey, Sweasey, etc) born June 22, 1804 in Hunterdon County and died June 20, 1877. Family records indicate that he married Elizabeth Smith (June 22, 1802 - October 20, 1862). Children were: M.E., John (abt. 1829), James Taylor (January 17, 1833), Charles Whitard (August 23, 1837), J.A. (1838), and Sarah (April 21, 1841)
No, I do not think they had them in the 1880s? The would have applied in
Hunterdon Co., NJ in 1881.... maybe I am wrong? If they did, then
definitely that would have it as you mention... does anyone know if
they exist in Hunterdon for this time period?

Hi everyone. You may recall my inquiry about a month ago, in search of an
old Hunterdon county map that showed landowners of the time. Thanks to
Bill Hartman from this list, I was thrilled to find a reproduction of the
1851 Samuel Cornell map of Hunterdon County. Really neat map. I purchased
a copy and had it framed for my husband for Christmas. It will soon grace
our living room wall.
We have a problem though. Yes, my husband found this very map already
framed at a gallery and bought the very sam
Darlene,
I don't know that I can help you with the Haugawout family, but I can with
the Van Camp(en) family. I do have Leah's father listed as Garret Van
Campen. Her mother as Maritjen Roosa. I'm not sure where they lived, but
there are many Garret Van Campen's so be careful. All indications I see of a
place, indicate Kingwood. That is also where Peter was living at the time of
the marriage contract. I show Leah as possibly being born there, so the
Garret you found may not be the same one.

Hello all,
I have just realized that in 1800, 1810 and 1820 there was apparently no
census taken -- or no census still exists -- for New Jersey. At least
according to what is available online. Is this right??? Are there any
finding aids for Hunterdon County that fill in some blanks for this
period of time?
Thanks for any enlightenment!

Hi,
Received several citations with references to a book titled, " More Records of Old Hunterdon County, Vol. II" . Look on the Web Site, http://www.rootsweb.com/~njhunter/ , but did not fined any reference to it. I was told it came from the Hunterdon County Genealogical Society. Am not sure if they have an e-mail address.
Any assistance in locating a source for this book would be greatly appreciated.

The only census that I am aware of that exists is 1820, Roxbury

Hi Mary,
Well I have just spent an hour surfing the Internet trying to get a valid
explanation of 'what became of the NJ census records prior to 1830' and the
best one that I found (since it confirmed my initial response!) is at this
