Jerry,
I didn't find a Sophia Rockefeller b. 1780, in the Rockefeller Genealogy
books, vol. I-IV. Do you have a possible township she might have been born
in?

>Jerry,
I don't know anything about Sophia Rockefeller, but is this Elijah,
the
son of Samuel who made his will April 14, 1802 and was the son of
Bartholomew and Elizabeth Thatcher? I try to keep track of Thatchers and
Taylors whose offspring married into the Eick family.
MrBill, how far back to these wills go?

This person asked where will records are kept for 1910 and later.
Wills are part of probate records and are kepted by the individual county
that handled the probate for the deceased individual. They are not
maintained in a central location. Therefore, you need to determine or know
where your ancestor died to begin your search of the probate records which
will occur aft
Yes, the map does contain household names.
You can see a sample of the Beers Maps on the web at:

This map is for Asbury in Warren County but the Hunterdon County book contains the same kind of
maps.

A little while ago, I mentioned to the list that I was doing some reseach on the Phillips family in Hunterdon (particularly Amwell) and that I had come across a series of articles in the Lambertville Beacon. The series is focused on Justice John Phillips' ancestors. I cannot guarantee the accuracy of the research. I have noted some errors; and oftentimes lack of detail of his uncle's family - his father's half brother (wouldn't you know it is my line which I am having difficulty with).

More on the topic of the Baptists. This may be beside the point or even
redundant, but I haven't seen it in this discussion of the origins of
Baptistown, so I offer it here:
The numerous Drake family of NJ had originally settled in Portsmouth, New
Hampshire, near the Piscataqua River (there was also a group of Native
Americans with this name or one close to it - writing this from memory).
They were Baptists as were some of their neighbors.
Eventually, they left or were exiled from their Puritan region and

Hi,
I'm looking for information on Abraham SEEVERS/SEAVERS/SEVERS born abt 1748
He lived in Amwell Twnship, Hunterdon County, New Jersey and his property was
confiscated, probably about 1775 when he was taken prisoner aboard the
British ship named TORBAY. In his Rev War papers his service is from NJ. Any
information would be helpful, parents and siblings needed as well as any
information.
Thanks in Advance,

Austin Young - 1860 CensusDane,
Thank you for this information. My husband's cousin, Lorrie (Dilley) Crompton, found the 1880 census with Austin, age 22, and I found him at age 11 in the 1870 federal census, but this 1860 data is very welcome. Now if only someone would come across his tombstone in one of Hunterdon's cemeteries. That would make my day. I also found a marriage record for Saxton Young and Mahala Smith in 1833 in Deats' Hunterdon Marriages.
Thanks again,

I have a copy of a letter from Gen. Wm. Maxwell to Gov. Wm. Livingston dated Oct. 28, 1781. A post-script of the letter notes that there exists "a Petition for a number of Inhabitants concerning Colonel Beaver [which] was put into Colonel Hughses hands and mine to present to the Legislature it is left with Colonel Hughs."
Does anyone know how and where copies of these early petitions may exist and how to follow up on any legislative activity on them?
Thanks, John.
