I think there was a question about Marriage Bonds earlier and I may have
missed an answer in the rush of the holidays.
I have a marriage bond with JOSEPH SMITH and JOB (could be Lyons or
Sayer) both of County of Hunterdon "do stand justly indebted" etc....
Joseph Smith hath obtained Licence of Marriage for himself of the one
Party, and for Mary Bonham of the other Party; ........Date Nov 4 1769.
What is the signifigance of the Job (Lyon or Sayer or ?) ?? What is the
purpose of such a bond?????
Grateful
Dear all you NURSES! out there:
Roberta Dixon-Pastor's mention of a nursing school on the Mercer Co. list,
"She graduated
from Mc Kinley nursing school in Trenton around 1932..." puts me in mind of
my grandmother's RN training.
I believe that my grandmother, Marie REID, attended St. Francis Hospital's
training program in Trenton, graduating around 1933 or so. She boarded in
during the term, but went home to her sister's house in Lambertville, NJ
whenever they got time off. (Her sister, Kitty REID, woul
I noted the queries re. SMITH families and just want to add that I, too, am very
interested in any genealogies on early families--pre-1800. It appears that my
family went to PA prior to 1800, perhaps to Washington Crossing in Bucks County.

Alison, did you try looking in Mercer County? Hopewell is actually in Mercer County. I have all of the surnames you listed - but - no cigar! I forwarded your message to a couple of Hopewell
cousins, though, and I'm sure they'll come up with something!

I have a 1924 diary from the Belvidere (Warren Co) area and the author
included this reference to Kitchen. Perhaps it is of interest:

Mr. Arney & George went to a meeting down to court house to see about

I have recently ordered 2 microfiche from my local Family History
Center. One is a notebook from the Deats collection including the
following notebooks: Brary (2), Britton (2), Buchannan, Burkett, Capner
and Case (10).
The other is a microfiche of a folder that Fisher hopefully will be
contained in. I did not jot down the first and last name contained in
the folders, but they are alphabetic.
I was told that it would probably be at least 3 weeks until they came
in. If anyone would like for me to look up an

He was said to be of Scotch-Irish stock. He was a blacksmith by trade and

I found the query about marriage bonds - and the resulting answers to be
quite interesting.
I also perked up when I saw the name Joseph Smith.
I'm looking for evidence for a Joseph P. Smith and possibly Susan,
parents of my gggrandfather Nathan D. Smith who was born in Hunterdon
County in 1830. I have the names of his parents from his death
certificate but know nothing else about them. From the dates Darwina
provides for her Joseph Smith, he is probably earlier than mine...but
does anyone see a family c

Dear Listers,
I am taking my cue from others this new year, and reposting those names in
which I have interest from Hunterdon County. The TODD family was in
Lambertville in the 1860 census with Jeremiah as it head, Elizabeth as wife
and two children: John Runkle b. 1858 and Mary Emma b. 1856. Jeremiah's
wife, Elizabeth, was the daughter of Jesse MATTHEWS and Hanna QUICK, and
was born in 1836 probably in Amwell area.
Any connections to these lines out there? I have not been too successful

Trying to remove pictures from magnetic albums can be a very trying
experience. Some pictures are removed quite easily because the stickem'
which was holdin' them has become unglued! Some pictures rely on more
drastic measures to be removed from the darn pages. It's like a giant magnet
has gotten hold and won't let go.
Here are a few suggestions to make removal life easier:
First, attempt to remove the pictures by gently lifting them with your
fingertip or a dull instrument. If that doesn't work,
Hello Listers!
One of the List members, Andrew Johnson, made an excellent suggestion -
to share the "details" of the search for JOHN HIGGIN's father, so everyone would know what has been done so far.
As I've already mentioned, my mother, Althea F. Courtot, (who is probably familiar to those of you who are DALRYMPLE researchers) has been doing genealogical research for a very long time. Because she is 78 now, and partially blind, she has turned the search over to me.
