1. [NJHUNTER] Reger, Haver [1]
Does Richard T. Reger belong to the Hunterdon or Somerset rootsweb list or Bonnie Haver Reger?
2. Re: [NJHUNTER] Restoration [1]
Dear Don, I only have a limited number of pages that I copied out of the book here at home---only pages that contain references to my family. I will check those out and see if I can find anything. Otherwise, if you can be patient, I will save your email; and the next time I get down to the HCHS, I will look at D'Autrechy's book again. It is indexed, so it should be easy to hunt out any reference to them . I can't promise exactly when, but it should be within the next mo
3. [NJHUNTER] WINTERS/WINTER [1]
Mike, There are 4 WINTERS & WINTER in the Sussex County Will Abstracts at Nancy Pascal's site, all living in Greenwich. Check out the following chronology, things changed alot over the time period you're interested in. Took me a while to figure out just where I had to go look for records, Flemington, Belvedere or Newton! (I can't remember the county seat for Morris, opps) Warren County was split from Sussex County in 1824 Sussex County was split from Morris in 1753 Morris County was split from Hu
4. [NJHUNTER] Riegelsville [1]
Actually, Riegesville, NJ is in Hunterdon Co. The Warren County line is just beyond paper mill in Warren Glen as you are heading toward Phillipsburg. Holland Township is solelyin Hunterdon Co. Kay
5. FW: [NJHUNTER] Winters and/or Winter? [1]
I have perhaps a related question ... Were the WINTERS or WINTER living in Sussex County, NJ, related to the WINTERSTEINs? -----Original Message----- From: Mike Miller [mailto:mmiller@pcsia.net] Sent: Sunday, January 26, 2003 6:53 PM To: NJHUNTER-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [NJHUNTER] Winters and/or Winter? Were there separate Winters and Winter families living in old Hunterdon and Sussex Counties, NJ in the 1780-1800 time frame? Also on the marriage of John Simson/Agnes Miller, does anyone know of Millers
6. [NJHUNTER] LEFFLER [1]
Once you're talking about St. James (Straw) Church, you're over in present-day Warren County, but it was still Sussex up till 1824 or 1825. I have an Elizabeth Leffler in my database who married Peter B. DeWitt (abt 1803-1886). Here are some early Sussex deeds that refer to the area around where the Straw Church is located: !Sussex County Deed Book, Vol. G, page 117, 14 November 1801, JACOB SHNYDER of Forks Twp., Northampton County, Penn., Weaver, and MARY his wife to PETER SCHWARTZ of Greenwich, Sussex C
7. Re: [NJHUNTER] Hunterdon Court Records question [1]
I was in the Hunterdon County Justice Center just last week. The records are in a separate room on the second floor (no worries about flooding when the river rises!) and the staff was extremely helpful. The clerk who helped me said that she attends the church (Zion Evangelical Lutheran Chruch in Oldwick) where several of my ancestors are bured and told me a little about the church. The records are indexed alphabetically by the first letter (or first two letters) of the last name, then by first name (which
8. [NJHUNTER] YOUNG family of Kingwood [1]
My great great grandfather JOHN S GARY married ELIZABETH D YOUNG of Kingwood Hunterdon County in 1842. Her death record in 1907 lists her parents as WILLIAM LAIR and ANN YOUNG. ELIZABETH, was born abt 1822. My question is ,was her father WILLIAM LAIR or WILLIAM LAIR YOUNG? Or was Ann young unmarried when she had ELIZABETH YOUNG? I do know there was a WILLIAM LAIR ,living in the area near Flemington at the time. I would really appreciate any help in this brick wall.
9. Re: [NJHUNTER] Members Flemington Baptist Church [1]
Dear John, From what I gather from the book, I believe that the list only included "active" members at the time of the church centennial. Statistics indicate that during the first decade (1798 - 1808), membership was 85 people. By 1848, the membership had increased sharply to 295. To your point, I do not include that many early members on my website. **Baptism** Trusting Jesus as your Saviour and Lord and making a public decision of this commitment through baptism. As I understand it, the Baptist Chur
10. [NJHUNTER] Restoration [1]
Dear Beverly, Unlike today when anything seems to fly in our churches, it seems that the churches of previous times really expected their members to uphold the standards of their denominations by their actions and their words. So if a person failed to maintain the standards of the church in a marked way (say a woman gossiped notoriously, or a man was given to public drunkeness, or a person merely spoke against the teachings of the denomination), they were often excommunicated from the fe
11. [NJHUNTER] Ministers of Flemington Baptist Church [1]
For those who may be interested, I just loaded images of the early ministers of Flemington Baptist Church (1798 - 1898) to my website. The images may be accessed through the following URL: http://www.geocities.com/bgmcdonough.geo/ It is interesting to note that in the timespan of one hundred years, the Flemington Baptist Church only had eight leaders. They were: Charles Bartolette, 1812 - 1846 Clarence W. Mulford, 1846 - 1849 Levi G. Beck, 1849 - 1851 Thomas Swaim, 1851 - 1867 E. A. Woods, 1867 - 1872 T
12. Re: [NJHUNTER] Winters and/or Winter? [1]
I have George D. Winters (b. 8 Jan 1823). Family tradition has it that he had siblings, Margaret, Andrew, Joseph, Ruth, and Peter. For some reason they were bound out to various families: George bound out to Drake family up around Asbury Margaret bound out to Gustin who lived around Newark and later in NYC. Andrew bound out to a blacksmith at Hackettstown. Joseph bound out to a family in Harrison, NJ. Ruth bound out to Banisters family near Hackettstown. Any information about their parents would be a
13. [NJHUNTER] Loeffler/Lefler [1]
My ggggrandfather who was Christopher Loeffler/Lefler was married to Mary/Maria Coosart at the Zion Church abt 1812. Later that year his oldest son,Robert, was born and baptised.(His brother Jacob married there abt 1810). They lived in Lebannon(I have never been to these places and I don't really know what I am talking about). Other close family surnames were Cregar/Hildebrandt. We are searching for Christopher's family. Could they be buried in the Straw Church cemetery? Bob Lefler
14. [NJHUNTER] HIGGINS [1]
I am trying to establish the date of death for ELECTRA (LECTY, LETTIE) ROCKAFELLER HIGGINS so that I can either look for an obituary or obtain a death certificate, both of those to the end of identifying her parents. She was born November 1850. In both the 1860 and 1870 censuses she was living with the family of Nathan Smith in Clinton. (I believe she would have been a daughter of Catherine (Meligan) Smith from a previous marriage). In 1871 she married Sylvanus Shaw Higgins and they lived in Rarita

17. [NJHUNTER] GAINES [1]
An ancestor of mine has the middle name GAINES (Edward G. Phillips). I do not know how this name became his middle name. I can't locate a Gaines in his father's side and his mother's parents were a Smith and Van Schomp. E.G. Phillips was born in AMWELL around 1814-5. Does anyone know of any GAINES families or places in this area? thanks. - John --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail Plus - Powerful. Affordable. Sign up now
18. [NJHUNTER] Miller, Ingraham & Kirkpatrick [1]
I am looking for information a Mary Emma Miller (her mother's maiden name was Ingraham & her family had been in the US for generations...some even fought in the American Revolution...but it's hard to track down when you have no names to look up). Mary Emma married John Alexander Kirkpatrick (from Edinburgh, Scotland). Together they had 12 children: Lucy, John, Robert, Ella Rose, Anna, Elizabeth, Fred, May, Florence, Joseph, Charles, & Hazel. I have A LOT of information on Mary Emma's descendants, but n

20. Re: [NJHUNTER] Cokesbury United Methodist Church [1]
Yes, the church still exists and operates as such. Have driven by it for years and yet don't know exact distance but I'm guessing it is about 3 miles north of Lebanon, up Cokesbury Road, which can be reached from Interstate 78 (exit 20B) or Route 22. There is a cemetery to the right of the church but not sure of the condition of the stones. The stones are quite old ...that much I recall. If you'd like to contact the church, the phone number is (908) 236-6151. Address is 610 Cokesbury Road. Dana Bower
21. [NJHUNTER] Re: Hunterdon Co Court Records Index [1]
To all the helpful listers, I should have said that I viewed the LDS mf#802474 "Index to Files (Hill-Hy)", which was a mf of Index Cards for the court records. From the replies I've read, it seems quite easy once you're actually at the courthouse. A person I was in contact with went there, looked at the records, and sent me notes of what they contained. She didn't make copies of the records because at that time, $3.00 per page was expensive enough. I know LDS has mf of the deeds and inventories are che
22. [NJHUNTER] Question about a legal document [1]
Hi Everyone, I am hoping there might be a lawyer on the list or at least someone who has done enough genealogy that they might have run across something similar. I am sending this message to several other lists to see if I can come up with an answer. Otherwise I suppose I shall have to pay to consult a lawyer. This involves an Application for Letters of Testamentary for my great-grandfather's estate in CT., but perhaps this is standard legalese that might be used anywhere. I am

Were there separate Winters and Winter families living in old Hunterdon and Sussex Counties, NJ in the 1780-1800 time frame? 24. Re: [NJHUNTER] Riegelsville? [1]
I drive through Riegelsville, NJ all the time to go to my brother's house in Finesville and I believe it is in Holland Twp in Warren Co. but I could be wrong about where the boundaries lie of these two things. I am sure it is Warren Co. but I don't know the township for sure. 25. [NJHUNTER] surname Kirkpatrick [1]
I'm looking for information regarding a Thomas B. Kirkpatrick who was probably born about 1795. He married Nancy Ann Paxson about 1817. Their children were Joseph B. (b. 5/18/1818), Eliza (b. 3/8/1820), Keziah (B 3/30/1822 who married John P. Skelton), and Letitia P. (b. 3/17/1824). I believe Thomas died before 1828. If you have any information about this Kirkpatrick family, I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks, Barb
