The following monumental inscription was taken from the graveyard of
the Bethlehem Presbyterian Church (known locally as "Grandin Church")
at Union Township. It was done for a fellow researcher, but I thought
I should share with this list. Is anyone else researching this branch
of the BODINE family?
The interesting thing about the headstone is that it very large, with
lots of names.
Here they are:
(Front of Stone)
PARENTS
Peter Bodine, b. 04-22-1801 - d. 03-23-1866
Susan LeFoy, His Wife, b. 11-28-1807
Emily,
These are the HILLs listed in the Index for the Hunterdon Gazette between
the years 1825 to 1835. Samuel Hill was listed in nearly every year. He was
a judge of the Inferior Court of Common Pleas for Hunterdon County. If you
are local, the Index and Text of the newspaper articles are at the Hunterdon
County Historical Society Library on Main St. Flemington. They are open
every Thursday from 1 to 3 and 7 to 9.

Hill, Aaron C.; Hill, Adonijonah; Hill, Ann B., Miss; Hill, Asher; Hill,
Looks pretty easy - just take I-78 East to SR 31 south. That will take
you right into Flemington. Follow the signs for the downtown area. The
Historical Society is right near the Courthouse on Main St. The address
is 114 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Hours of operation: Thursday 1-3,
7-9 p.m.

Is anyone familiar with the name Jane (Mitchell) Hendershot? She was the
wife of Adam Hendershot of Tewksbury, NJ. Adam died before his wife,
Jane. She then took up residence in High Bridge, Hunterdon County, New
Jersey. Any information about Jane or he husband, Adam would be
incredibly helpful.
Thank you

Fellow Researchers,
Since my original posting, I have done some research on the topic of
public records. I found that the Freedom of Information Act (FOI) is
a Federal Law, not applicable at the State level. As I understand it,
New Jersey is an "open records" State. Vital records of birth,
marriage and death are considered public record. Individuals have a
legal right to this information under the New Jersey Right To Know
Law - Title 47. The only thing confidential about the vital records
is the cause
Hi all,
I am trying to locate the obit or death notice for my great grandmother.
I am disabled and unable to get to the Hunterdon County Library in
Flemington. If someone is planning a trip to the library and has a
little extra time to spare, I would so appreciate a lookup for her. I
don't know how far back the Hunterdon County papers go. Info follows -
Jane (Mitchell) Hendershot
Married Adam A. Hendershot on Sept 1, 1858 in Whitehouse, NJ.
Died - June 28, 1893 in High Bridge, NJ

Hi Marilyn,
This just might be a garbled version of LAWSHE, pronounced in two
syllables (I once had a wonderful conversation in a Hunterdon Co.
cemetery with a lady looking for this name) which as you know is a name
quite common in the area.

I apologize for being such an air head and not posting any dates.
Jane Mitchell married Adam Hendershot in 1858. Adam was from Tewksbury.
I have no date for Adam's death but sometime after he died, his wife.
Jane, relocated to High Bridge. Jane died in 1893 in High bridge. I am
searching for any information possible on Adam & Jane (Mitchell)
Hendershot.
Thank you.

I've "rescued" a Wedding book which includes an original wedding invitation
and marriage certificate for Hattie C. BOWERS daughter of Mr. & Mrs. J.F.
BOWERS and Charles C. CODINGTON. The couple was married 23 June 1892 at the
home of the brides parents in Annandale, Hunterdon County, New Jersey.
Witnesses were Lewis B. CODINGTON and Lillian J. BOWERS, and the ceremony
was officiated by A. MCWILLIAMS.
I find record of a Charles C. CODDINGTON b. 30 April 1855 in Tewkesbury,
Hunterdon County, NJ and am wonde

The book, HISTORY OF FRENCHTOWN, by Clarence B. Fargo [1933] is for
sale on Ebay at the following URL:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1542134469
I have no interest in the sale of this book. I have my own personal
copy, and I know it would make a good addition to your home library if
you have ancestors in Frenchtown.

Perhaps you could give us a time frame? The Hendershot line is fairly
well researched, though I don't find the ones you mention in the tree I
have. There is a Hendershot Family society that you should be able to
find using Google (I don't recall the URL offhand.)

Hi,
In the "Index of Persons, Places and Subects Volume 1 of Mortgages of
Hunterdon County 1766-1793 " compiled by Phyllis B. D'Autrechy
"All names are indexed. An Asterisk appears before the names of the
grantor(s) and grantee(s) when they first appear in the mortgage. The date
given for each person is the date of the mortgage or the date mentioned in
the mortgage when the person was involved in the transaction. No location
is given for persons who were witnesses or judges since the exact location

I've worked up a series of maps (36 maps in total) showing the changes in
the civil boundaries within Hunterdon County from when it was first
organized in 1714 up to the present.
Jan Reuther has been kind enough to store these
maps on her Web site for everyone to access. You can see the maps at

I hope these maps prove useful. Email any corrections/questions/comments
