Hi, Lilly!
When I found out that the earlier Hunterdon County census records had been
destroyed by fire, I, too, was crushed!! ( I am trying to find out from
which country my Jobs family lived , before coming to America.) For the
past several years, I have been trying to break through my brick wall in
Flemington, Hunterdon County, New Jersey!
When my husband and I visited the area, we were able to find a few leads at
the Hunterdon County Historical Society in Flemington. In a book, entitled,
"Marriage
Isaac Hughes b.1833 married Elizabeth Kohl and suppose to be buried in Copper Hill.
when I searched the Hunterdon co. cemetery listings on rootsweb, I only found 1 cemetery in Copper Hill-
the Kuhl family burial grounds on Copper Hill country club. if someone has the Hunterdon historical newsletter vol 3, issue1--to see
if they are there, I would appreciate it. or is there another cemetery in Copper Hill they might be in?
thanks.

Lilly: There is a book "New Jersey in 1793" by James S. Norton. Library
of Congress Catalog Card Number 72-78916 Copyright 1973, with color prints C
ourtesy of Rutgers University Library, Special Collections, New Brunswick,
New Jersey. Printed New Jersey in 1793, 1213 East 2100 South, Salt Lake

I'm sure you can find this in some libraries, especially in New Jersey.
Hope this helps. Marilyn

Between the original mail with names in the A-B categories, and my added
posting of the remainder, you may find the answer to any such request.
However, I see no Alpaugh listed, nor a Sinclair.
Cheers,

Thanks to everyone who tried to answer my question. The anwer is, that all
the census records for 1790, 1800, 1810, 1820, for the State of New
Jersey, were destroyed by Fire, so they don't exist. There are some tax
lists, I am told, but I haven't located them yet.
Sorry, very sad news to me, and I am sure to you as well.
Now that we understand this fact, what can we use to document our families
in NJ in this time frame?
What resources are available? Has anyone found online tax lists? Or do we
have to go
Hello to list,
I am in need of info to find if there are Naturalization papers for my ggg grandfather.
They are (if to be found) located in Trenton, NJ.
I live in ILL near St. Louis, MO. there is a web site for the listing of persons who applied for Naturalization there to which I have found my paternal grandfather and several of his brothers from France in the early 1900's. Now with the family in NJ I need to know info from the latter 1800's on the Buckley name.
Is there such a site for Trenton?
Any assi

I have been looking and cannot find an online address for the Hopewell Museum, but their address is:
Hopewell Museum

Hopewell, N.J. 08525

In addition to "Pioneers of Old Hopewell", I believe that I also purchased at that time, "Traditions of Hunterdon" by John W. Bob, Are you related to Marion Kitchen and her son Donnie. Marion lives in
Newton, NJ now I think. I'm interested in her because she has Van Camps in
her ancestry and we are likely related as far back as the late 1800's
Thanks, Steve Van Camp, in Calif.
Jim,
You might look at this site. It is "Historical Maps of New Jersey." There
is one for NJ in 1826.
http://mapmaker.rutgers.edu/MAPS.html
Scrolling down the page at the site, there are many that are for counties
or smaller areas.

I know the Alpaugh people and I think the Sinclair folks too married into my

Depending on when your ancestors arrived, there may be naturalization records.
I found one for my ancestor in the archives at the Hall of Records in Flemington [County Clerk's Office next to the old Court House]. He applied in 1836 and the final papers were signed and duly recorded in 1838. It contained a wealth of information including where he was born in England!
The reference for this was one of the books by Phyllis D'Autrechy on old records of Hunterdon County - not sure of the exact name!
Regards,
You're very welcome, Mary.
There is a Hude, but no Hyde. Remember that these are identified as the
"main families," which would imply that there are other surnames
mentioned among the 4800 descendants included.

Is Lisa still a member of this list? She sent all those wonderful news clippings about a year ago for northern Hunterdon people, but an email to her tonight was returned as undeliverable.

As follow-up to my request concerning the name of the Hotel at Cherryville - Call off the Hounds!
After further magnification and research, it appears that the name of the hotel in question is the Perryville Hotel in Perryville, Hunterdon County and not a hotel in Cherryville!

I was visiting the main FHC library in Salt Lake City last week researching
nearby Sussex county. They had a book on the information desk on one of the

Bob,
Thanks for explaining the process. After highlighting the copy one can
press Ctrl-B to capture the copy and use Ctrl-V to paste it somewhere. The
process we've described will help members who still laboriously transfer
information to their files by transcription rather that highlight-and-paste.
I didn't think to add directions on the web, but you've explained it well
for those who are in a learning curve. The same process applies to
accessing the website URL first given with the book query: use Ctr
