Would anyone out there have access to the Index to NJ Deaths, A-Z,

I'd like to have a listing of JOHN DOUGHERTY's or DOUGHTY's.
This might also be spelled DOCHERTY, DOTHERTY or DOTY.

I have just unearthed a little more of my PHILLIPS line and would appreciate any information any one could give me concerning the following:
JONATHAN PHILLIPS m. MARY SMITH in 1812; Jonathan's death certificate at the NJ Archives lists his parents as LOTT and ELIZA. PHILLIPS. Jonathan is also noted in a Lott Phillips' Will inventory in 1820 (I think, but it's off the top of my head). The Hunterdon Gen Homepage has some information, but it does not seem to give me what I want.
I also noticed a posting t
Hi All,
Looking for anyone researching CONNELLY in Hunterdon. My John HEITZMAN was
married to Catherine. Found info LDS that gives her surname as CONNELLY, but
with no verifiable source. Approximate time frameof marriage, late 1780's.
Their first baptised child was in 1790, at the German Reform Church in
Alexandria.
Making the BOLD attempt at adding surnames to all the surname-less women in
my family tree!

Brenda,
I omitted the names of my great grandmother, Susan Pettit's parents from my
previous e-mail. They were John Pettit and Catheran (sic) White. Got their
names from great grandmom Susan's NJ death certificate of 1910, but don't
know their place of birth. Sorry I couldn't be of much help, but your names
do not sound familiar to me.

Could someone look in your New Jersey books for "Stephen Reed"B.abt 1760 in

is his marriage intent to Else "Alice" Bonham on May 4, 1782, in Maidenhead.
Hunterdon Co., New Jersey. I am looking for his parents who could be Benjamin
Reed and Jemina Green. For that matter his parents could be any other REED.
He is not mentioned in Benjamin's Will. They raise 10 children some born in

Jim,
I found the article in the May 22, 1888 Democrat newspaper. Its quite
extensive and I have no mean of making a copy but if you give me some time,
I'll try to type it out in full.
The caption reads:
DYNAMITE'S AWFUL WORK
One Man Killed and Six Injured - A Dozen Houses Demolished and a
Hundred Others Wrecked - Many Miraculous Escapes.
If there is something of key interest let me know.

Folks,
We need to put an end to this discussion before it goes

First, NJHUNTER is not the proper place for the

Second, you cannot get a virsus from NJHUNTER or anyother

Since people seem a little anxious to get a query, here is another....
I have traced my line to the GANO family in Hunterdon County.
ADELINE GANO was the daughter of CHARLES GANO and SILVAN MUTA.
CHARLES GANO was the son of RICHARD GANO and MARTHA BEAVERS
I don't know who RICHARD GANO's parents are, can anyone help?
Also, I never cam across the name MUTA before. I think I might be mis-reading it, but it does not look like any other name I couold think of. Perhaps METLER?
Does any have any relation

Thanks so much for the info on Elijah RITTENHOUSE. He was married to a dau.

To get a "first hand" account of the rational for electing surnames for
slaves and former slaves, read the Autobiography of Booker T. Washington,
"Up from Slavery." There is a section in the book where he describes the
somewhat arbitrary nature of name selection. I am sure Dennis Reiley's
account can be included in origin of family names.
