3. Re: [NJHUNTER] Emigration to Kentucky [1]
Leslie, Can you tell me the names of your Demott ancestors who moved to Kentucky? Some of the Hunterdon County Williamsons also moved to Mason County Kentucky ca 1790-1800 with the Terhune family also of Hunterdon County. Cornelius Williamson, son of William Williamson married into a Demott line. Sincerely, Marilyn Schmidt miwi6@netzero.net

You are so right in 'apples don't fall far from the tree'. In doing our Pieterse/Peterson Dutch migrations across this country, particularly studying the sons of Tomas and Anntje Lammers Pieterse/Peterson of Hunterdon Co., NJ. Two of their sons, Peter and my line, Harpert traveled together to WV, Harp went into the Ohio River Valley, Peter and descendants into Oh and some into Kentucky...this was 8 generations ago. Recently I had lunch with an 8th cousin, a male Peterson, direct descendant of Peter

7. Re: [NJHUNTER] Lambert [1]
Lilly, My thought would be that Perkins is really her middle name. Maybe she was named for a (fictional) Mary Perkins and the family called her Perkins instead for some reason. So be receptive to that possibility. You might want to be looking for a girl with the middle initial of P. Back then parents named their children for people with their full name, like if you were going to name a child for me you would name her Anita Clayton Martin, Clayton being my married name. Anita Clayton > Since her fir

Doug, Many of these same families - Stouts, Runyans, Andersons (my ancestors), Corwines & Harts as well as others Parkes (mine), Smiths (mine), Vannoys, Merrills, Mershoms, Hunts (mine), Lannings, Palmers, Heatons (Eaton), Moores, Greens and many more left Hopewell, Hunterdon Co. area much earlier than the Rev. War - in the mid 1700s - 1757 or so because of unhappiness left over from the "Coxe Incident" when Col. Coxe one of the West Jersey Proprietors charged people to pay for their land again after th
9. Re: [NJHUNTER] Lambert [1]
Hello Sharon, Thanks for the help, but I really hope I can find someone who has a good understanding of the Lambert family in the 1700's in Hunterdon Co NJ. I need a Perkins Lambert, she is female, she married Johannes Brouwer in 1768 at NYC, they both stated they were from NYC. In looking at LAMBERT names, there are VERY early Lambert names in Essex CO, especially at ELIZABETHTOWN, also at Bergen Co NJ. So I am trying to find someone who knows each of those 3 locations, the Lambert ancestry, to see if I
10. Re: [NJHUNTER] Warren County NJ Marriage Lookup Request [1]
Kim, You can get a microfilm through the LDS containing the record of marriages. It contains photocopies of scraps of papers, lists, etc., and not in order. A little time consuming, but worth it if no one volunteers to do a lookup for you. Pat

A wonderful series of small pictorial/historical books which focus on NJ town can be found at http://www.faithfabric.com/books4.htm I've seen them in various shops and historical societies. They are very well done and mention many family names. -Rita in Hunterdon Co. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bob Johnson" To: Sent: Thursday, November 04, 2004 11:57 AM Subject: [NJHUNTER] family migrations patterns and DNA? > You are so right in 'apples don't

The Cornelius Williamson who married Stacia DeMott did not have a daughter Catherine. At that time here was more than one man by that name living in Hunterdon and/or Somerset County who might have had a daughter by that name. Marilyn Schmidt

Hello, A friend of mine is researching the FARLEE family in Hunterdon County. She has found many of them buried in the Old Rock Church Cemetery in West Amwell. She was able to find headstones that were still in good enough shape to read, but was wondering if the burial records are available anywhere for this cemetery. Thanks so much for any help/advice. I own a mac and have had no problems at all reading them at all. The pdf files open using Preview, and more quickly than Acrobat. I'm not sure who has been telling the Society they won't work on Macs. By the way, I'm using Panther on a 800 megahertz flat panel iMac with a superdrive.... > I was wondering whether there were any other Mac users out there who had > figured out a way to view the Hunterdon Gazette CDs. Hello Doug, My 6th gen. grandfather, Absolom Smith (son of John and Mary Houghton Smith and nephew of Col. Joab Houghton) received his land in Clermont County Ohio from a Rev. War grant as did his brother John Jr., a former minuteman from Amwell, who settled in Butler County. Because Absolom didn't get a written discharge at the end of the war, when it came time to collect his pension, he had to testify in front of a judge and retell his war service. I bought copies of those papers from the National Archiv

John, Look on Ebay. I was able to purchase a REALLY good map of NJ in 1856. That's what I was looking for, but I bet you would be able to find older ones. You are going to be surprised at how many choices you'll find. Good luck, Ana PS I have the email of the guy I purchased from; I believe his is a business. You could always email him & ask. But going to Ebay first, might give you more leads.

21. Re: [NJHUNTER] Lambert [1]
Anita, Thanks for the idea. I am prepared for any Lambert female, married in 1768, NYC to a Brouwer/Brower. Since her actual marriage license says Perkins Lambert, and the 4 baptism records at RDC say Perkins, I think the name is Perkins. But, her great grandson, wrote it was PERKES when he charted the family line in 1868, and his own father would have been alive and living nearby, so that spelling came from her own Grandson, presumably. Perkins is a English surname, also PERKES is an English surname. I

The historical 'Rock Methodist Episcopal Church' is currently known as the Old Rocks Church. Located at 260 MOUNT AIRY--HARBOURTON RD., LAMBERTVILLE NJ 08530, the Rev Dave Errickson is the pastor and would probably be the best starting place to locate church records. You might want to write to the church at the above address, or call the church number (609) 397-2588. Hope this helps, Helen
