I have a gr gr grandfather who immigrated from England. All I know is that
he landed at "Castle Garden" on 16 June 1887 and settled in the Trenton
area. Does anyone know where Castle Garden is and how I might get an

I have traced many of my ancestors to New Jersey in the time span of the
early 1700's. I have only found census and tax lists that go back to
1753. Would anyone have any suggestions of what lists may exist that
would list ancestors and their counties for a given time. Any
suggestions would be appreciated.

I am looking for some connection between these families.
My grandfathers name was Chattles Beaver Perrine. We always wondered
where he got that name. A week ago we were in Hunterdon County looking
for some kind of information on the family and found a Joseph Chattles
Beaver in a cemetery at Fairmount. It was just across the corner from
the United Methodist Church there. There were also a lot of Apgars
there along with one stone with the name Perrine. My grandfather had a
sister that married an Apgar a

b. 4 Mar 1842/43, census says in NJ, military papers say "Hunderson Co

Enoch SMITH and Jerusha WILLERLAN (hard to decypher her name on census
record.) Robert married Sarah SMITH b. 10 Aug 1847 Berks Co. PA.
Does anyone have info on these folks?
Thank you.

Hi,
This is not really a response but more of a question regarding Castle
Garden. I seem to recall reading somewhere that there were two points
of entry into the states one being Ellis Island and the other being
Castle Garden. Could someone correct me if I am wrong with my memory.
That those who entered at Castle Garden were sponsored by someone here
in the states and those who were not entered at Ellis Island? Thanks.

Is there some technically capable soul out there who can
electronically scan the listings under the name SILVERS in the
Hunterdon telephone directory and send them to me? My relatives came
from that part of the woods in the 1800's and I would like to see if
there were any relatives left behind who I can contact.
Much Thanks,

There is a Gardner Collection in New Brunswick, in the Alexander Library,
Special Collections at Rutger's University. I assume it's the one you're
talking about; but you should call to make sure. Rutger's also has a great
set of "Genealogy (or Genealogical?) Magazine of NJ," church records, county
histories, will abstracts, etc. I've found alot of stuff there, including that
for the early 1700s.
The NJ Historical Society in Newark has similar collections; but I think
Rutger's is more extensive.

Can someone look up his death for me ???
He was born in 1836 in New Jersey. Married to Louisa Amelia

Louisa did in 1916 probably of a broken heart when her husband of 50

Hello,
i am seeking any info on the Lord family of Hunterdon Co. From
1830 census a Cornelieus Lord was living in Lebanon Twp with his family. I
think he may be my g.g.g.grandfather. My g.g. grandfather was a Bethuel
Haines Lord who was living in Trenton in 1850's and 1860. .

I have is most all came from Wales/England LaRue>France. In the early
1800's. If anyone can find a link with American Indian To THATCHER-NUTT

know it is from that side but have as of yet to come upon it. Thank you
the EDWARDS Family.
Does anyone know where the C. Carroll Gardner Collection s housed? I would
like to check the index to both of the collections but am unaware of where
to look.

Its my understanding that Castle Garden, which was on the very southern
end of Manhattan Island, preceded Ellis Island as the clearinghouse for
immigrants. I believe that once Ellis Island was up and functioning,
Castle Garden was shut down. I've never heard of any different entry
points for those who were or were not sponsored, but I'm sure if that's
true someone will jump in here.

Hello
I am trying to find out some information on tax lists for the 1750 time
frame on the SMALLEY surname, Namely David Smalley (Revolutionary War
veteran). I have a friend who sent a request to the Genealogical Society
(along with a stamped envelope ) but didn't get an answer. So I told
her I would post to the list and see if someone can give me a better way
of finding out information for the lady. (she doesn't have a computer).
Any and all helpful information will be greatly appreciated
Thank you
Tom
