Can someone give me a brief summary of the history of the counties in
the Hunterdon area, that is, what were the original names and which
county broke off of which? The main questions that I have are:
1) I notice that the town of Hopewell is in Hunterdon Co. However, was
there at one time an entire county named Hopewell?
2) Was Mercer Co. once part of Hunterdon Co.?
3) What county was the city of Trenton originally in?

I have a book entitled _An Historical and Genealogical Record of the First United
Methodist Church of Pennington 1774-1974_ . Pennington is a small town about ten
minutes south of Flemington and Ringoes.
I will gladly do lookups for anyone I can help. My parents live near this church's
cemetery...if we do find one of your ancestors listed and their stone has survived in
the cemetery...I can photograph it for you.

Does anyone have any information on John TROY, who lived in Kingwood township,
in 1778m 1779, 1780, 1786, 1805, according to the Tax Ratables for Hunterdon
Co.?
My gr grandfather was Alvin THARP. His mother's maiden name was TROY, and I'm
looking for her and her parents. Alvin was born in Hunterdon Co., in 1816.
Could John have had a daughter who married a THARP?
Anxiously looking.

If you're researching any of the following Hunterdon County families please
let me know. My grandfather, William Harle III, was always fond of saying his
family helped build this darn country, and I've found evidence of the Harles
going back to the 1700s in Hunterdon County (within its various boundaries).
I have tracked the Harles to their possible origin in Kirk Harle, Northern
England, which I visited in 1996. If you're researching any of these people,
I would love to know:

Greetings,
My father's great aunt Lina Thorpe Carr, often spoke of visiting relatives in
the Lebanon NJ area when she was a child. Their surnames were Ramsey and
Lewis. These visits would have been sometime around 1900. It is possible
that one of them may have been a funeral director. Anyway, we suspect that
these ancestors were of my GG grandmother Ella Hummer (1864-1925) who was
married to Orrie Thorpe (they were Lina's parents). I have no information on
Ella's ancestors and am interested in corresp

Now that I see I've given Doug a different answer than yours to "What
County was Trenton in?", I'm wondering if we are talking about two
different time frames: I've got Mahlon Stacey, usually considered among
the first settlers of Trenton, in the Nottingham Town Book in 1692.
Nottingham was at that time in Burlington County. Did Trenton proper go
to Hunterdon later?
