2. Marsh Landing [1]
See if this helps. G udde, "California Gold Camps", says on page 209, "Marsh Creek (Contra Costa County) A tributary to the San Joaquin River, which heads east and south of Mount Diablo. Named for John Marsh, the foremost pioneer since 1839 in the Mount Diablo District. The Antioch Ledger(June 17, 1871) and other papers reported the discovery of paying gold deposits along the creek, The excitement was short lived." 6. Re: OLD CHURCH RECORDS [1]
do you have any ideas where to ffind records of the >German ME church in SF on Folsom between 4th and 5th STs? And the >schools nearby in 1880? You might try calling the churches in the area now and asking them where the records were kept and if they might still be available for research. Likewise with the schools. The reference desk of libraries in the area might have information or know where you can get it. Good luck. You might also check with Sutro. They have things not found anywhere else. Bar
7. Re: Knights Landing Cemetery Book [1]
Ken, I listed part of that cemetery just last week. I restricted my list to pioneer types, ie do late 1800s. Didn't finish because of rain. I do believe there is a listing around somewhere -DAR? I'll let you know if I find it. 8. Searching for a friend [1]
I saw your email address on the Geneaology Helplist California web page and thought you might be able to help me. I'm looking for a friend I haven't seen in 30 years. I can't locate her and assume she must have married. I would like to know her married name so that I might continue my search. Her name was Aurelia Katherine Hargrave and she usually used her middle name, "Kathy." I knew her in San Diego in 1967-1969. She was born in August, 1947. In 1969 her parents lived in Newport Beach, Califor

10. Who is left??? [1]
With Roland, Lewis and Carolyn off the list, who is left??? The heart of the list is beating very faintly and due to stop all together. Is that really what we want? Not me. It takes many parts to make a whole. With 3 important parts (Roland, Lewis and Carolyn) missing, how can we expect the list to run smoothly as it has for a realatively long time. I feel very sad about this. Can only wish them each the best and hope they rejoin us very soon. Barb Marshall Marshall
11. Comte [1]
Is there someone on the list who can explin to me the meaning of COMTE? My husband's gr. gr. grandfather was given this title and we're trying to figure out what it means. Family lore has it that he was born in France, the iligit son or grandson of Count Savoy. Know there's some truth here because his mother went to court for child support and a title for him from his natural father. She got both. Next question, who was the Count of Savoie in 1825??? Can anyone suggest some good books to read that would g

13. RE: Famous Pioneer [1]
My famous pioneer is (William) Paris Henderson. As a small boy in Indiana and then Illinois, a certain circuit lawyer, used to visit their house and stay the weekend when he was a small child. Abraham Lincoln was a long time friend of Paris' parents. The story goes that one weekend in particular Paris was disappointed because his father would not take him to Sunday School, Mr Lincoln volunteered to take the disappointed Paris to sunday school. When he got there he found that the teacher was not present so

Thanks Yavonne, for putting things in their proper perspective. It was the not knowing that made it difficult to accept and understand. I think there was guilt also. Guilt for perhaps not having paid closer attention to the list. Guilt for grumbling and guilt for not telling those who left, how much we - I - appreciated them. I do agreee with all that you said. If the list is truly what each individual makes of it, then I sak all Norcallers and Norcallettes to join me in trying to make this list the great p

Hi, I have had some experience researching the Stockton state mental hospital and the CA state archives has their records. However, the patient records are closed to the general public. The only ones that i know that have access are historians or other such researchers, researching historical data. The privacy act limits access even on deceased individuals. You might try contacting the CA state archives and seeing if they have records on Agnews and if the records are available. If they are available onl

Both of Gudde's books, "Place Names" and"Gold Camps" and 3rd and 4th editions of " HIstoric Spots" by Kyle, Hoover et al1990 and 1968 are commonly available in libraries, at least in California.
