4. Fort Ross Cemetery [1]
Does anyone have information about the cemetery at Fort Ross? I was by there some time ago and understood that the Park people(?) were trying to find out something about it and I heard recentlythat they had located and identified some graves there. Are they Russian and/or American? I understood the USSR(then) consul in SF was interested and looking into it. Who on the Net knows about up-to-date news?

6. Joseph Heintz- Sacramento [1]
Joseph Heintz, b. 1 Sep 1834, Alsace Lorraine, France - d. 23 Apr 1899 in Sacramento. He married Mary Meyer. As far as I know they didn't have any children. Joseph is listed in D.5 -P.33 of the 1890 Great Register- Can someone look this up for me? Also any other info on this family would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the great info! Do you know what churches were in San Francisco from 1864-77? My husband's gr. grandparents were married in the city in 1876 - don't know the date. Her folks were in S.F. from 1864-abt 1877, than 2 years in Oakland and disappeared from records. I'm hoping to find info from the church they attended. They lived on the south end of Jasper Place which was between Dupont and Stockton. I don't even know if the street is there any more. Thanks. Barb Marshall At 07:32

Jacob Heintz, b. NY - 11 Aug 1840- d. 2 jul 1896 in Sacramento. His obit was in the Bee. He was in politics for a number of yers - he was license collector and ran on the opoulist ticket for sheriff. He ran a barber shop before going into politics. Later he turned to farming on a peice of land in the San Juan Grant. He was married to Julia ? who was born in 1841 in NY and died 2 feb 1921 in Fairoaks, Sacramento. Their children were Bertha and Franklin J. Jacob is listed in D.4 -P.11 of the 1890 Great R

I have two relatives(brothers- one 30, the other 23) who came to CA and settled in Sacramento in about 1864. They came from Batavia, NY (near Buffalo). How would they have gotten to CA? Train? Where would they most likely have ended up in CA (if by train)? Could they go directly to Sacramento from Batavia ? Does an index exist for the book, History of Amador County, 1881, Thompson & West? It was reprinted in 1994 by Larry Cenotto, the County Archivist in Jackson. I probably should ask him but maybe someone here will know or he will see this. I don't have his e-mail address here.

They ask that you inclose a short letter or postcard inside an UNSEALED envelope addressed to the individual you are searching for and they will forward it to the last employer. You might also write to the postmaster of the last town they lived in and enclose the same unsealed envelope, etc. along with a brief note to the postmaster explaining why it is important to you to contact this person. Rich: If you believe she was born in Quebec, check the IGI at the LDS church. I might be better to check the fiche before you go to the computer, as the fiche has more immediate information about place of birth (you have to open each file on the computer to check that). Also, the French Canadians kept incredible records (Catholic priests) so I'm told; some of the best documentation of births in early North America is from the Quebec records. I would assume they have been transcribed to the IGI, but may
