3. Re: Rasmussens Wagon Train List [1]
I am confused about the addresses here. I hope this is directed to the right person. I have namesSteins, Stover and Heintz. I will also send it to NORCAL_L, just in case. Several years ago the Butte County Historical or Genealogical Society printed a copy of the Moore-Birchett pedigree. They have a list of all 10 of Jonas/Elizabeth Reliance children and their spouses, further for Sarah and Joseph of those 10 and on into the 3rd generation of those 2 . Many of these folks are buried over the years in the Mag

6. forwarding messages [1]
Please folks, may I make a huge request? Thank you. Would all of you who are forwarding messages, please remove the headers before you forward them? Save the date, name and email address of the person who sent the original message but please, pretty please, leave out the rest of the headers? Ah, now I feel much better. Thank you. Barb Marshall

italian ancestors obituary in the italian >newspaper at the time for San Francisco. Should have thought of this earlier, with all of the talk about French hospitals, etc. Was there a French newspaper? If so, it ought to have some obituaries, births, marriages, etc. that would be very helpful. Anybody know of one? Where would I find the archives? Thanks. Barb Marshall

9. Property location [1]
Unfortunately, as Ken said, Section 13 is immediately east of the east border of San Mateo County. S13,T8S,R3W is in Santa Cruz County, on the USGS Big Basin Quadrangle. I have the property as N/2,SE/2, and N/2,SW/4, S13,T8S,R3W.I presume that is supposed to be N/2,SE/4. That makes it essentially the north half of the south half of Section 13 The property straddles State Highway 9, about 1/4 of the property is west of Highway 9. If you have a map w/o section lines, the property can be approximately located
10. Butte City, Amador Co. info [1]
Ginocchio Store is about all that remains of the old town of Butte City(SRL 390) on hWY 49. As early as 1856 Xavier Benoist had a store and bakery in this building. For a time, Butte City rivalled Jackson. Now, the ruined store and a graveyard mark the townsite. The store is now fenced off.(Information and some of the words are from Historic Spots, 1990).I wonder if anyone has listed that cemetery. It would be a logical place to find your John Fells Stewart.
11. Quigleys in No. California [1]
I found 4 Quigleys in Sierra County, 1 in Tuolumne, a bunch in Butte County, 2 in Chinese Camp, Calaveras County, latest death date for any of them was 1913. Are you interested in any or all of them?
12. Stone file you sent! [1]
Gail, Thank you so much for sending the Stone file. What a thoughtful thing to do! You must have a super filing system and/or a fine memory. I'm impressed. I need to thank the Farnsworth lady, too. It's almost frightening the number of things occurring on the Internet. How can we ever keep up? I watch three groups, NORCAL,CEMETERY and GOLD RUSH and you come up with something I didn't even know existed. I know that somehow some NORCAL folks have their research names listed on each of their messages. I don

15. 1854 Map of California [1]
I am interested but probably will have the printer memory problem. Jim, It took about an hour to get your map attachments. Now, my problem is, I can't print it because my printer doesn't have enough memory its says. Darn! Any suggestions? Anyway, thank you very much for your trouble. Its a neat map and I wish I could copy it. (I also don't have a color printer.) Pat. >This one should be easy. It's huge because I'm not compressing or >zipping it. 16. Re: seeking advice on purchasing a CA map for home use [1]
For an atlas type map, I vote for Delorme, There are 2 to cover California. The Northern California book covers from the Oregon line south to just a little north of Santa Cruz east on a line between Merced(on) and Fresno(not on). Map scale is 1:150,000 or about 2,3 miles to the inch or the other way around, 7/16"= a mile. The USGS quads are better than any other map of the country. Scale is 1:24000 or 2000feet=an inch or about 2 1/2 inches=a mile. They cost $4 per quad. Delorme has an index of towns, at lea
17. Adopted & Foster Kids researching roots [1]
Guess it's time to stick my two cents worth in here. To qualify, I am an adoptee, step-parent and the step-mother of a grown adopted son. In 1991, I searched for and found my birth family. Both parents were dead but located and was reunited with 5 sisters and a brother and a whole slew of cousins. I love them all and have a great relationship with them. When I began my search, I was 45. When it became apparent that I had better tell my adopted parents what I was doing to be certain no one else told them
18. Two Paradise Flats [1]
Ken, some possibilities, Gudde mentions Paradise in Placer Co. between the North and Middle Forks of the American River, about 2 mile northerly of Spanish Dry Diggings. He says Doolittle's map 1868 shows it as Paradise Dry Diggings; Bowman's map, 1873, shows Paradise Diggings and Flat. Paradise Canyon contains Todd Creek and runs into the American River just above Oregon Bar(see USGS Greenwood Quadrangle). Paradise nmay have been on Todd Creek. Having said all that there is another Paradise Flat in Sisk

23. SCOTTSVILLE, CA [1]
Scottsville is shown on the 7 1/2' USGS Jackson quadrangle. It is a little over a mile SE of the center of the town of Jackson on Highway 49. Tunnel Hill is adjacent east of Hwy49, about 1/4 mile NW of Scottsville, back toward Jackson from Scottsville. The 1962 Jackson Quad shows 3 houses at the site. More information is available on all three sites. Do you want it? Didn't find any Fox help. Scottsville- from Gudde, California Gold Camps, page 312 1. Amador Co. 25. Palo Alto [1]
Do we have anyone on the list who is in Palo Alto whom I could hire to do 1938 and later Palo Alto city directory lookups for a single name? The FHC has just a handful of Palo Alto city directories on microfilm, and none past 1935. Thank you, Charlotte
