A tribute to all men and women who have answered their nation's call. The following letter is from a Marine in Viet Nam to his parents. You are right Ben, I don't know when my gr-gr-grandfather, Frederich Glocker, arrived in San Jose. I do know he was in Norfolk, VA. I do know he married Marietta Peyton , and they had 3 sons. I do know he is buried in San Jose. but I don't know what he did before that. He was young. A German Baker and only 42 when he died. He was born 1835 in Suttgart Germany. I guess he had parents and even siblings. But I don't know where to start there. I don't know when he married Marietta. I guess about 186

It's also fun to find others with relatives who landed in the same town with a trade. My gr-gr-grandmother, Marietta Peyton Glocker, was still living there in 1878. I would like to find out a little about San Jose in 1870's. What brought settlers to the area? Wasn't it farm land? Where did they get water from? My gr-gr grandfather was a German Baker in San Jose. He was born in Stuttgart Germany, came to Norfolk, VA. Married and then moved to San Jose. He died at the age of 42 in San Jose, in 1877. I am trying to figure out what brought him to this country and why San Jose. Thank you Lynn __________________________________________________

23. Aunt Charlotte's book (Travelalong the river and creek beds) [0.967954]
Nature did a great deal for the west coast when it gave the general east and west direction to the many streams that lay between there and the Missouri frontier. We could travel for days and sometimes even weeks along a river. At night we made our camp on the banks of it.
