1. Orville HORTON, 1910 - 19?? [1]
Would some kind person check the California Death Index for a Orville HORTON, Myrtle (KING) HORTON and Edna KING. Looking for a connection to the George and Jane Alice KING family. Based on the marriage registration for George and Jane Alice KING I would estimate Myrtle KING was born appr 1888 in Ontario, Canada. Myrtle KING married a Orville HORTON and they moved to California. They may have lived in the greater LA area for a period of time. According to family members they both died in Califormia. Edna

3. Re: Santa Cruz Brass Rings [0.968252]
My sister and I took our kids to the Santa Cruz Boardwalk a few years ago and had a great day, we all squished into a photo booth and took a picture, which I have hanging up on my big computer, I also loaded it at http://www.maui.net/~mauifun/fun.htm The kids got some brass rings, and theres no way they could go out into deep water, there are sharks in that area! Not like here in Maui where you hardly see one. Anyway we had a swell day at that old Boardwalk, and so did our children. Jill
4. Re: IT LIVES!!!! [0.968252]
You are right about Don Sherwood. It was KSFO and the 50's. Another thing he used to say was "Everybody says Les Vogel but no one ever does" and he had a wonderful song about "The Last Time I Saw Lodi". For those of you who aren't familiar with San Francisco, Les Vogel had a Chevrolet Dealership and I think there is still one with that name doing business now. He was also on KPIX I believe with a great (for that time) TV show. JWELSH1051@aol.com wrote: > Howdy y;all: > > Like Don Sherwood used to say "Out

7. Re: CADI? [0.968252]
Hi Warrene, I'm sure there are others that know more specific details than I, but perhaps this will get you started: "Mayfield" was the original town name of the town located adjacent to Stanford University. It has now been incorporated into the city of "Palo Alto", which surrounds Stanford, home of the First Daughter, a lousy football team and hi-tech center of the Universe, midway between San Francisco and San Jose on the peninsula. All located on the northern edge of Santa Clara County. Hope this h

9. Northern Trail Landmarks - a potpourri - 1849 [0.968252]
Howdy, No trip along the Northern Trail to CA would be complete without the traveler's description of these famous landmarks. So let's join 49er Reuben Cole SHAW in 1849: "The fourth of July[1849] was ushered in by discharge of our firearms, and, after thorough cleaning, they were ready for use again... "We made satisfactory progress up the north fork of the Platte, and as a higher altitude was reached, the river became very narrow and rapid, and where it cut through high ridges, it formed
10. SF Memories- Street Cars [0.968252]
When San Francisco began a Municipal Railway operation in the early 1920s the City and the competing Market Street Railway did not share trackage. Muni had to build their own. When the two lines converged on Market Street it set up a harrowing experience. There were four tracks on Market Street. Two outbound and two inbound. Muni had the outside. Getting a Muni was easy, but getting a MSRR car was scary. You had to step across the Muni tracks and stand motionless as two street cars roared down the stree

Don't waste a call for death certificates in Illinois unless it is between 1915 - 1945. I tried for that "free" copy for 1893 and was told only the 1915 - 1945 was available at the State Archives. Ella in Michigan

20. Re: Delta Queen vitals [0.968252]
I didn't realize "our" Queen had been reincarnated from CA! She makes it from St Paul to New Orleans several times a summer and costs an arm and a leg! I understand it is quite an experience! Last Feb Eldershostel posted a 6 day trip from N.O. to Natchez with a tour of the ante-bellum estates there---but it filled so fast we didn't get in. We have several other river boats--the Josiah Snelling, the Paddleford, others. Come try them out. Win in MN On Tue, 13 Oct 1998 18:27:03 -0700 Bill Roddy
21. DILLON and SPARROW [0.968252]
I am researching Margaret DILLON and Joseph SPARROW. Joseph came to SF in 1849. He married Margaret DILLON, I think in San Francisco. Both were born approx 1828 in County Wexford Ireland. Joseph had a store at the corner of Ecker and Clementina, between first and second. Prior to that he had a saloon at Folsom and Fremont..1860. Would like to see some photographs of that area around 1850...1890. Also, need to find the DILLON connection. I can't seem to find any info on Margaret. Children....Julia A
