Bill, I have family both spelt High and Hey from Little Dunham, very close to your areas. Cheers Laurie
2. RE: Norfolk Location [1]
Thanks for all the replies on the location of APOZES or APIZIS in Norfolk. The Assizes that Lynda and Brian suggested could be correct. The "place name" appears in a Conditional Pardons list with the heading "Where lived when and sentence" (looks like when, but no dates are given in the list) and in a Free Pardons List with the heading "where lived and sentence". The other entries on both lists only have "Wicklow", "Ireland", Co Dublin", but the entry for James Waterson is "Norfolk Coy Apizis" and "Norfo

5. Re: What age is Full Age? [0.970393]
It should not be assumed that because 'Full Age' has been entered on a certificate that the Bride or Groom is aged 21 or over. I have 4 marriage certificates, dates ranging from 1839 to 1870 that use the term Full in the age column and one bride's age is 18, another bride 19 and one groom 20 all others are over 21 the eldest 31. The ages verified from other sources. Ken Stanford Researching in Norfolk - Blofield Hundred. STANFORD LAC{E}Y LITTLEWOOD BROWNE
6. FREECEN 1861 Project [0.970393]
Hello Hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season. This is just a short note to give an update on the progress of the 1861 Freecen census project for Norfolk. To date I have allocated 23 out of 77 pieces. I have set up an extremely basic webpage to show the progress of individual pieces for both the 1861 and 1891 projects. Please see http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/bevsnorfolkinfo If anyone is interested in assisting please contact me on bandys@worldonline.co.uk The 1861 project is worked on CD's with individu
7. Re: The Norfolk Ancestor [0.970393]
Hi I would be very interested in your old copies of the Norfolk Ancestor, to further my Norfolk research. Can you tell me what the cost of posting them to Northumberland would be ? Best regards Les Dixon

9. RE: A 1950 Obituary in the Sub-district of Norwich South [0.970393]
Hi Chris, I think we may have spoken before, but thought it is worth checking any possible connections again as we both may have added more names since then. My Mother in law is a BARNES, she was born in Dereham in 1928 and her father was Ernest BARNES from Watton Green. Although she only has sisters, her father had many siblings. His father was William BARNES of Caston and As well as Ernest had sons William, Fredrick, Walter, Percy, Gordon, Horace and Charles. I have the BARNES line back to 1788 so if you
10. Follow up on looking for FIELD [0.970393]
G'day all, I recently asked for help looking for my FIELD ancestry (from 19thC Norwich, going back through Fritton and Loddon). No luck with feedback - but you can't win 'em all. However, a follow up question please. Ploughing through the IGI stuff suggests that Fields were common in East Anglia (all right - enough of the puns - I mean the names!) Can anyone point me at info which may give me clues as to the distribution (or concentrations) of the name, if any. If there is a pattern, it will help wit
11. Surname interests [0.970393]
Hi Maureen I have just done a little bit of research on the DOWNING surname in DISS, Norfolk, mainly using the transcript of the Diss registers from 1551 - 1837 but I don't know anything about the family after the marriage of my 3G grandmother Elizabeth DOWNING to William TURNER in Hinderclay, Suffolk on 23 October 1820. Best wishes Roger
12. Mary Rolfe-1841 Census please [0.970393]
Hello list, I am searching for my GGG grandmother in the 1841 Census. Mary is the daughter of Nathaniel ROLFE and Jane CARTER ROLFE. Mary was baptised in Methwold in 1819, so she would be about 22 in the 1841 Census. I do believe both Nathaniel and Jane were deceased by 1841, though I have no records to prove that. I would like to know where Mary was in 1841. Mary ROLFE born 1819 in Methwold. She was probably still living in the Methwold area. Thank you for any help. :) Jacquelin
13. PR- Maiden names not given [0.970393]
A bit of a general question this. Whilst looking through various Parish Registers in Norfolk, (West Lynn in particular) I have noticed that with baptisms some of them do not tend to give the maiden name of the mother. This makes tracing the marriage of the parents very problematic if not impossible. How do people on the list tackle this problem?
14. Re: Norfolk Wills Online [0.970393]
FANTASTIC - The best 3GBP I have spent. (4 US gallons of gas) Found the will of my great x 3 grandfather and solved a puzzle of his two marriages. Have not yet been able to deicde if he left me anything! The following notes from the site may be useful, as they only hold PCC wills up to 1858 A will is a formal document setting out what a person wants to happen to their possessions after their death. PCC stands for Prerogative Court of Canterbury. The PCC Wills held by the Public Record Office, many of wh
15. Divorce-General Information [0.970393]
I am a new subscriber to this list, and a fairly new genealogist, and hope that I can draw on the collective experience of the list to get some guidance on looking for a divorce. The couple in question, James William PARKE and Winifred Ida PLEASANTS lived in Pulham St. Mary the Virgin, and the marriage effectively ended sometime between 1915 and 1918. As I understand matters, any divorce at this time would have had to be completed in London, and of course the actual divorce date might have been well
16. Mayor/Lord Mayor of Norwich [0.970393]
Might somebody be able to tell me why some Mayors were just Mayors and others were Lord Mayors of Norwich? I am looking for any info on William Hunter, Mayor of Norwich in 1881. I have his picture and know he was born in 1821 in the Bury St. Edmonds area. Might someone know of an obituary, seeing as he was a former mayor? Any info would be greatly appreciated.Might Suffolk be a better location to look for him and his family? Carol in the middle of Canada _______________________________________________
17. KNOTT and PRATT of South Lopham [0.970393]
Dear all I have been sent some very welcome information by Roger Self, and I wondered if anyone looking at the South Lopham registers some time would kindly look for a marriage between Mary PRATT and John KNOTT or NOTT about 1800, give or take a few years. I would also be grateful if any mention of either name in the register was seen by chance. Merry Christmas to all Janet Northampton UK

19. Helping you with the 1891 Census [0.970393]
Hi List, I am offering to try and find lost ancestors on the 1891 census anywhere in England. I am not using CD's so addresses will not be of any help to me. I only ask for a few things to help me identify the correct family for you. I have asked already and was told that I am not breaking copywrite rules, etc. as long as I am not doing this for a profit, etc. I am only trying to help others break down their brick walls. After replying to a person on their request, I delete all replies to them and any
20. RE: Emmerson [0.970393]
Hi Raymond, I have been researching my PARSON family history through many generations in Ely and Cambridge but have now got stuck. My ggggGrandfather Henry Parson(s) died in Ely in 1810 aged 52 and his wife Mary died in Ely in 1837 aged 66 or, but I can not find their births or marriage in Cambridgeshire. Then on a recent trip to the Mormon Church in London, their CDs showed a marriage between a Henry Parsons and a Mary Emmerson at Stanhoe in 12/4/1794. The date is very possible. So now

23. Look ups for parish around Briston. [0.970393]
Trying to break down this 25 year old brickwall. Looking for the birth of a Richard SADLER born c 1774. Through a kind lass on the list I have determined there is a possible relationship with Briston, where a Richard was born 1783. This info has been confirmed by a Norfolk friend from the orgignal registers. My Richard Sadler married Esther Cooper in Runton in 1802, moved to Yarmouth where they had several children, among them a John Simon born in 1822. In Runton at the time of the marriage was a

It has been mis-read and is listed in the index under a 2nd "Hevingham" at RG9/1205/65-72. I did post this to the list last week when I found the mistake myself. Hope this solves the problem.
