2. Re: Pre 1837 marriage transcripts [1]
Dear Glenn, From my experience it's hit and miss as to whether the father's name was recorded at a marriage - I've found some from that timeframe were, but lots more weren't. If one of the partners was under age sometimes the father or other relative had to give permission for them to marry, and this is recorded. Regards, Jeanette. ----- Original Message ----- From: To: Sent: Friday, September 05, 2003 5:49 AM Subject: Pre 1837 marriage transcripts > Hi Lis

6. Re: Which one is my Wiliam Leeder? [1]
Hi Brenda Thank you for that information. It concludes that if my Richard? married, it was either not in that time period or was somewhere else, maybe Suffolk? The William born to Elizabeth in Dennington. This Elizabeth Leader/Leeder was baptised in 1806, so this would have made her about 22 by 1828. I suppose the only way to check this couple out, is to look for Elizabeth and Richard Finch with a child called William Leeder/Leader on the 1841 for Diss? Thanks for the information Brenda, I think it answers

8. Re: 1841 Look-up [1]
To echo Dave's point. Since most of the censuses were taken at the end of the first quarter, there is approximately a three in four chance that the standard calculation of the year of birth given on most census sites is one year later than the actual year of birth. And then add on an allowance for the inaccuracies and downright lies that people told (and still tell) about their ages and those of their wives and relatives (not to mention the uninformed or wilful guesses about the ages of their servan

13. Norfolk Record Office - re-opening October ? [1]
I have just come back from a couple of days in Norwich. The Search Room at the Norfolk Record Office is still not open in spite of their promises to re-open in late Summer. The helpful staff at the excellent Norfolk Heritage Centre in the Millennium Library at the Forum made vague noises about a re-opening date in October but were not sure ... I was quite happy with the duplicates of the NRO microfilm and fiche collection held at the NHC - although most of the readers were in use on Friday afternoon. Davi
