1. [NMB] Howes family of Great yarmouth Norfolk [1]
My HOWES family which were living in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk during the 1840's to 1860s before moving to London were John HOWES, who was supposed to be a mariner and his wife Sophia, who was a teacher of music. However, one of their sons, William was born in Newcastle On Tyne in 1849, and John's occupation was listed as Police Man. I would like to know is what they could have been doing in the area, with Johns occupation different to what it is supposed to be, when the wedding, and the births of both Wi

Brian you said ... Garibaldi. He was in the Newcastle area on several occasions in the 1850s and invariably visited Joseph Cowan at Stella. A statue was erected to Garibaldi near Cowan's home at Summerhill, Blaydon. My question is - Whereabouts on the Summerhill? and are there any photos anywhere? Thank you Terry in Annapolis

15. Re: [NMB] Surname Interest - LAMB [1]
Dear m l Free BMD http://freebmd.rootsweb.com has a marriage of Thomas Lamb in Newcastle registration district for Mar 1875 (ref. 10b 229). The two possible wives (there are two marriages on each page) are Elizabeth Hewitt and Maria Elliot - since you already know the first name then its clearly the latter. Interestingly the Newcastle Registrars online search available from http://www.ndfhs.fsnet.co.uk/RegIndex.html does not have this marriage recorded for 1875. Someone who is more familiar with the New

Serendipity 2 - Holystone Hello, I have been chasing down the farms worked by four sons of James PYE & Mary DIXON in the Earsdon and nearby parishes in the late 18th to early 19th centuries. John was at Holystone (and also apparently at Middle Coldside in Mitford) and later at Seghill, George was at Riplington (in Whalton), James was at Seghill and Ralph was at Backworth. With the help of someone with more detailed maps than I have we located all of these places except Holystone. You can imagine how pleased
