1. [NMB] Dialect or language??? [1]
Hi Listers, In a message to Charles I told him about a mention of WW2 shelters in Clara St Benwell in a book of Joe Gings. Once I had found the quote and sent it off to Charles It ws impossible to put the book down again!!!!! I found a further quote which I feel those of you who have not read the book will enjoy. This is from 'A Geordie Scrapbook' by Joe Ging printed in 1990. It is a work of Bob Hedleys from when he was involved in Newcastle's Theatre Royal and is entitled Parliamo Geordie. Warra boor
2. [NMB] Visiting Newcastle for family history [1]
Hi listers, I have finally booked my visit to NBL (via Ireland) and have two questions which I hope Brian and Fee won't mind me posting on the List as they might help fellow family historians visiting the region. First: I need to find hotel/pub accommodation as close as possible to Bolbec Hall so I can walk there easily for the week I am in town (I have arthritis so can't walk far). Any suggestions? (a single room with private bath would be lovely). If it is unacceptable to post names then please tell

6. [NMB] Armstrong Works [1]
My grandfather worked at the Armstrong Works in the early 1900s. (I have details of their manufactures.) He came to Australia about 1907 it is said because they had been on strike for 9 months and went back for a ha'penny increase. Does anyone have any more information on the strike? Was the increase per hour? How did the families survive for that long without a wage coming in? Was their a union-type fund? Social Security? Thanking you, Bev in Oz
7. [NMB] Blyth/e families [1]
Hi all, I'm interested in hearing from any Blyth/e related persons on list whose families were in Northumberland and or Durham in the late 1800, early 1900. 9. [NMB] PRO Look up-Help! [1]
I am asking for this look-up because the IGI obviously isn't accurate!!-and it seems a birth certificate has been copied wrong!-in the spelling of a surname. I have a childs mother's name as Sarah GOLTON. Her husband is Edward DYKES. I have no access to PRO records where I live. But according to the IGI she is GOFTON-born 1855 Maldon Essex. From the 1881 census I estimated her birth as 1852. The marriage of this pair according to the IGI is 1870 in Essex. Please would SKS if they are visiting a library look
