2. Re: Norway List website [0.963908]
Hi Karla, May I please have the address for the Norway GenWeb site? I am really enjoying the "Digest", only thing wrong with it, it's quite time consuming, my family complain that I am too involved, there are a lot of things that gets put off when I start to read from the "Digest" and also all the stories that Uncle Kneel so kindly gives us. Greetings from Fevik BERIT _.-. '( ^{_} ( `~\`-----'\ )_)---)_) E-mail: beezee@aa.telia.no DIS-NORGE (member no. 5671) and Norwe
3. Waiting for Goli [0.963908]
I'm new to geneaology and the list, but I figured I'd jump right in. I'm looking for information on Kristian Nilsen Goli (b: May 30, 1817; d: May 18, 1898). He might have later changed his name to Sauer. He married Marte Kristine Tollefdatter Trengen. Their seventh daughter, Martine Karoline Sauer, was born December 6, 1858, in Eftelot, Sandsvar, Norway. This is all information I received from family members. What I'd like to know is what parish he lived in. I believe the farm name might have been Saur. I

Michael submitted these points: 1. Person in need: put what you want tranlated on the List 2. Translator offering to do it: send 'I'll take it-message of list to person in need. 3. Person in need: If no takers, perhaps repost after a week. Ellen concluded with this in the translation duplication discussion: |My personal feeling on this is that trying to regulate this activity |could well wind up killing the golden goose. My personal feelings is |to let it stand the way it has been; strictly voluntary

8. Census Help 1835+ Please [0.963908]
Can anyone assist with information of the following family. I am especially interested in the names of further children of Ole and Karen. Parents: Ole SORENSEN and Karen SIMENSEN/SIMERSEN Known children: Simer Anton SORENSEN born 1835. Olaves (Oliver) SORENSEN b.c. 1836 Sarpsberg, Norway. Julius Augustus born 1849 Tuneo/Thune/Tune or Sendosund ??? There seems to be some confusion as to Julius's birth place. I believe there is a town Tuneo/Thune/Tune about 5kms from Sarpsberg which is where

Maryellen wandered: |would this be in the Moss area? |thanks for your reply. |that is how it appears to be spelled. Maryellen! What do you mean with "that is how it is spelled"? Do you mean Tsbakke, Tobakke or Tabakke? Neither Tobakken or Tabakken is close to Moss, however. But as I pointed out, there might be other farms (or hills) with names like this, but definitely not Tsbakke. Knut Bryn

13. Re:Norway to the USA [0.963908]
Neil, Thank you for your reply. Since I knbow the ships and dates that brought my ancestors from Norway to Qubec in 1884, I am curious about some of the details on the voyage itself. What were the conditions like. My ggrandmother followed her husband in October with five children 6 months to 11 years. She traveled in steerage. What were the living conditions, etc. This is the type of information I would like to obtain. I am sure it exists but it is not so easy to find. Thanks again. Don

19. Norwegian roots [0.963908]
Dear list: I'm relatively new to the list and to tracing my roots. Like Eric and Donna, I too was spurred by the deaths of loved ones. My father died of lung cancer last Mother's Day. His brother (the family patriarch of many years) died on Easter last year. Their deaths had a sudden and profound affect on me. I realized I would no longer hear those long s's that when they reach your ears automatically make you think of lefse, rommegrot and krumkake. I still remember when I called my dad from South Carol

23. 1875 Cen.- Rødøy & Lurøy Pr.,Nordland [0.963908]
I have just received the 1875 census lists for both Rxdxy and Lurxy Parishes in Nordland. I would be glad to do look-ups for anyone. They are indexed by given name, surname, farm name and include an index for birthplaces (I think...). Someone correct me if I am wrong. At any rate, I have only had them a couple of days but find them easy to use - even for someone who speaks no Norwegian. I used the wordlist that Karla sent out several weeks ago and managed to translate what I needed. My only question at th
