1. Re: Translations [1]
Hi Jeff! "Monica Kristoffersen" wrote I am looking for ancestors of Nekoline Jakobsdatter born in Vaagen (Lofoten?) ca 1816. She was married to Sivert Hermansen from Vig in Sogn. They lived in Vesterelen. They had four children as far as I know (The information I have comes from Bx Bygdebxker.) If the following is worth reading, I don't know. It is direct from the genealogy program. I have only scattered information about this family, but hope you find something of use. Med hilsen Odd H Bjugn "Jakob And

Iceland list just substitute "Iceland" for "Norway" in your subscribe. It's not very active. Denmark is probably similar, but I don't know for sure. Ruth Ann "Pauline St. Denis" wrote: > > Can anyone please send me the addresses of a Danish and an Icelandic list

MeLani Don't give up yet. Maybe no one was home the day the ennumerator was there. At the end of the section there may be some catch ups of missed information. Twice I have had this happen to me when looking up things in the census. Beverly from Los Angeles

11. Re: Norwegian victory [1]
it is the comparison of cost and the hours spent to cover that cost that really determines the cost of living I certainly agree with you on this subject. I certainly wouldn't consider this cost of living designation to be anything I could compare with my own living expenses. If I plan on visiting another country I expect to pay their prices and not quibble about it. That is part of the experience. Daraleen

15. Re: Fallen Union Soldier [1]
Carol, Sometimes a union soldier who died down south was brought back to Maine; often he was not. Pvt. Johannesen's situation was typical of many I've found in my research on local Civil War soldiers: he was discharged practically on his deathbed so that his care and burial fell to his family. Four suggestions come to mind: 1--search the USGenWeb site for the site of state where he died. 2--check with the cemetery association for the state of his death (I do not know about Missouri--here in Maine it
16. Re: Union Soldier Dilemma [1]
Carol Did he die in a military installation hospital? Check for any St Louis area military (state or federal) cemeteries as well as hospitals. He was discharged, but perhaps still applied for some sort of pension to cover his medical care. Now that you mention his death in St Louis, my first thought would be Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St Louis. But you may want to check Rock Island National Cemetery in Illinois as well. There is also a State Veteran cemetery at Quincy Illinois. Check out the V
17. Re: Grandmother from Farsund [1]
Can someone find Ragnhild and Arthur in 1920 and/or 1930 They are in Cliffside Park Borough, Bergen Co., NJ in 1930. Ragnild immigrated in 1910. They have 3 children: Roy, 18; Fred, 16; and Alice, 5. Arthur was said to have been born in Norway of German parentage - which didn't surprise me since Schonemann is a German name. Daraleen

19. Ourdahl birth [1]
I believe I have found the birth entry for my 6g grandmother in Ourdahl, Oppland. Her name is Birthe and her father is Halsteen Ranum. I do not see a patronymic for him and I don't see a mother's name. Bithe was baptized 26 march 1731 but it looks like the mother was introduced the 15 March which wouldn't be possible. Could I scan and email my copy to someone who would help me read the entry? First I thought the mother might have died so her name isn't included, but it does have the introduction notati
20. Re: WEEN Cemetery Lookups/Erik [1]
Hei, Karla, Assuming you copied "Minnetankae, Mn" correctly, this must be Minnetonka, MN, which is next to Excelsior, MN. Both cities are on the western edge of Hennepin County. The county seat is Minneapolis. Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis has a web site where you can search an index for names: http://www.lakewoodcemetery.com/f_welcome.htm. I know Bind 1 has been published. Predicted publishing dates for future Binds have come and gone, and I know that these books do take a long time to prepare. But does anyone know if anymore volumes have been published yet? Guess whose family is not in vol. 1! Linda
