Does anyone know why some computers receive the Norwegian letters like x, F, e etc. as they are printed and others receive some sort of code in place of the characters? Howard Bauer Researching Familys from these farms: Xstre Holmvik, Rennemo, Malmmarkaune, Ystmark, Landsem and Laugmoen.

9. Re: ancestor tree display [1]
Hi Debbie I had the same problem. I also have Family Tree Maker, and I wanted to print out a tree of almost 200 names from a pre 1800 branch of my family. Unless I don't know how to use it (a good possibility) Family Tree Maker is pretty much useless. What I've done is put it on a spread sheet in Microsoft Excel. It takes a little planing to keep it all in order. I first did a glue up to help keep it organized. I did the names in a number 12 font and in a smaller font, number 8, I wrote in all the pe

12. Martha Stewart, Enough Already! [1]
Hey, aren't you people finished with Martha Stewart YET! And what's she got to do with Norway?? She's not Norwegian!! I believe she is POLISH! Anyway, it's lots more fun to see the REAL Martha Stewart instead of reading satires about her. Check out her daily program Monday thru Friday on CBS TV, MARTHA STEWART'S LIVING. It's on CBS TV, and in the San Francisco area, that's 9:00-9:30 AM on Channel 5, CBS. Check the times on your CBS stations in your area. Watching her is mind-boggling. I don't think
13. Re: Flekkeroy, Vest-Agder, Norway - is my ancestry Norwegian orDutch - or a combination of the two? [1]
Barbara, thank-you for making your presence known. I am told that one of my Norwegian ancestors was really Dutch, coming from the Netherlands in the late 1600s. I know nothing more than her first name, and when someone did a look up for me, they gave me a different name, so I'm not even sure of that. However, your comments about the Dutch connection to Norway has helped me put another piece of the puzzle together. Thank-you. 16. Cottonwood Replay [1]
Hi Rob (I think) and all, Don't ask me what happened to the Cottonwood message. I must have done something goofy. I'll try again. Cottonwood has less that 1000 people and they are probably some that would remember an Engen family, there may be some still there. I suggest you send a letter addressed to Postmaster Cottonwood, MN (ZIP Code) I don't have the ZIP Code but you can look it up in the post office. If you happen to live outside the USA, just ask for it on the List and there will probably be a

Here's another trick with the colored paper with the microfilm reader. (By the way I prefer the blue and green paper as it is easier on your eyes over long periods of time.) TIP: Hold the paper in you hand and you can actually focus the image by moving the paper closer and further from the lens. This is particularly useful when the image isn't focused evenly from one side to the other. I use this when I have found the information I want am am now trying to decipher exactly what it says. Donald and Anyone Interested, I have a copy of "The Hauge Movement in America" published by The Hauge Inner Mission Federation in 1941. It was printed by the Lutheran Free Church Publishing Company, Minneapolis. It is sort of a history filled with Bible verses commenting on the action. It begins, "We begin with the miracle on Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit came and glorified Jesus and led the disciples "into all the truth." It builds from there and covers early lay activity before America as well as g
