1. Re: Things from our childhood that our grandkids will likely never [1]
Happy Holidays to the list. These memories are great. I remember my grandmother telling me how she & my mom stood in line to get karo syrup for my formula. And gas ration stamps. My dad was in the navy away at sea. When I going to school, we made May baskets and took them around the neighboorhoods and hung them on the door knobs. My husbands family never had keys to there house either. They had outhouses in Kansas. Some of the jokes they played would be tipping over the outhouse. And when people came

4. Emigration Lists [0.962807]
Hi List, I am wondering whether there is a source to tell me more details about some of my family who emigrated from Telemark to Wisconsin. I have the dates and ship names for GGGrandparents Torger Olson Siljudalen Landsverk and Anne Andresdtr Bx (or Boe), who left Gransherad Parish in May 1841 and arrived in NY the same year on the ship Emelie. Also Torger's brother Halvor Oleson Skare and Margit Kittelstr Runingen who arrived on the Tuskina in Aug 1843. These are from Naeseth's book on immigrants. But

Hi Marie (That's my name also, BTW, Elin Marie) In my atlas, I have found Emli in Aust-Agder, Vest-Agder and Telemark. The one nearest to Dypveg is the one in Aust-Agder. It is about 30 km (approx. 20 miles) north-west of Dypveg, north of Nelaug. Omlid is probably the former way of spelling Emli. Regards, Elin

I knew we could count on our esteemed leader to set us all straight. I think Merriam Webster should have check with you before he wrote his little red book. HOWEVER, now that I know the REAL definition of citron I'm haveing second thoughts about eating it. Going to leave your definition attached as I think it is so important for everyone to know the 'truth'. At the top of the first page of each farm chapter in the Vik i Sogn bygdebooks there is a series of graphical symbols (geometric forms), each of which is associated with the name of one of the men that farmed there, generally in the 1650-1800 period. Can someone please tell me the origin, meaning and significance of these symbols, or point me in the direction of where I might read about them. Gordon

Floie, I found an ancestor on the 1865 census by using Kar* because she wouldn't show up using Karin. I knew she was there, thanks to another list member, so detemined to see the page and additional info about the family, resorted to the above search. John -- There is a Skilbred farm in Siljan, Telemark, that might be of interest to you.
