3. Norways Private Telephone "Information" being released Tuesday [1]
This may be of interest for our friends outside of Norway ;-) On Saturday (Nov 30th) there was a small notice in VG, which says something like this: Private telephone numbers are today only available on the www.telefonkatalogen.no you have to be a resident of Norway to be able to use this page. Now the "Datatilsynet" has lowered their demand for registering so that this coming Tuesday you may find private telephone numbers listed on the popular web page www.gulesider.no which means anyone from outsid

He appears at the Hafelden farm in Ritsen in 1865 with the Ole Olsen (Berg) and Mina Eriksdatter I mentioned in my previous post. 5. Re: confirmation (was: JØNLAND & HAUGEN) [1]
When referring to the year 1898 I certainly had a definite example in mind. It concerns a man from Bykle who was denied to marry in that year. But then he was sentence to ten months in jail for malevolent brawling and illegal raindeer hunting, and on returning home from his stay in The Botsfengselet in Christiania, he could bring his sweetheart to the altar. I remember checking out the legal background when I wrote up this episode, but I seem to have mislead my footnotes on the subject. But Anne Hildrum
6. Hans Kvernes [1]
Hi all and Happy Holidays! It is good to finally be back after a long stretch..and back in genealogy mood! I am looking for Terry's ggggrandfather: Hans Kvernes b. around 1783..he went to Nordland around the turn of 18th century. We suspect he was from Kvernes, the island outside Kristiansund..or maybe even from Kristiansund. He was grandfather of the Greenfield's (Grxnfjeld) who emigrated to Minnesota..well, if anybody has any clues in this search, I'll appreciate that. Hakon Bjerke

8. Burns [1]
Hi Bev! The only other nominative census is for 1801, but you have to know the location. Nor are emigrant records very good for that early. Where did they emigrate to? What tells you she was born in Norway? Olaf Hi Olaf. Thank you for your reply. Do you know if there were any earlier census in Norway. I believe these people emigrated to England before 1867. Is there anyway of searching the Surname Burns in Norway?? Bev. Canada
9. Frålsarkransen [1]
HI, This may be a little off subject, but a cousin called me today and said someone had asked her about Frelsarkransen prayer beads and she wanted to know what that word meant. I did a Google search and came up with one website, but it is written in Norwegian. The heading says "Att anvenda Frelsarkransen i barnomsorgen". Can anyone tell me what these are? Thanks Much, Marlene Avery

20. Norway list family [1]
Thanks Annette for saying almost exactly what I had been struggling to formulate into words. I think it is actually a great credit to the list as a whole and to Karla in particular that the members of the list actually do see themselves as so much of a family that spats like this do break out! It's normal in any family of intelligent individuals (At least I hope so - otherwise I am the mother of a horribly dysfunctional family! ;-)) cheers Catherine G'Day As a long-time lurker to

22. Re: Help with Baptism Records [1]
Laurie, As you seem to be referring to an online transcription of the records, I suspect that the church books were dated by the church year - beginning with the first Sunday in Advent. The church year of 1875 would run from Dec 6 of 1874 to the 1st Sunday in Advent of 1875. In the parishes I've worked with, they start numbering the baptisms, marriages, etc. for the year on the 1st Sunday in Advent. I'm pretty sure the actual date of birth for Brita Maria was Dec 22 1874. This kind of error also pops up w
