Dear Catherine, Lew and others, Your stories from real ancestors have touched us all deeply. We are learning so much about how it really was in Norway during the invasion in 1940. I hope others who have stories to tell, or family history of this time, will also share them with us here. In this way, they are forever there for anyone who is seeking knowledge on this time period in Norway. If someone puts in WW2 Norway in a search engine, it will bring up many hits in the Norwaylist Archives. Th

I use Mapquest when I'm trying to find my way to someone's house. I think for a big trip like this I'll go to the AAA and get a trip tik. I want to have plenty of time to stop at scenic places. Besides that, I can only stand about 8 hours in a car, and need to stop every 2 hours and stretch or my back will give out. I'm really looking forward to this trip now. Travis, It seems that the Martin ROISEN (= Martin Monsson RXISEN 1893-1983) that you once knew came from the farm/place RXISEN (now: RXYSA) immediately to the north of the farm/place/village RXDBERG (now: RAUDEBERG) on the NE side of the VEGSXY Island (part of Selje municipality in 1900). Kudos to Cliff on finding all these entries in the IGI! Since this is in Vege, it's piqued my interest. I haven't had a chance to look for all the individuals that Norris has mentioned, but I took a look at a couple that were convenient for me to do so (Ja, there's just tons of stuff to do, and the kids ate all the spritz I made. so I've only got three kinds baked so far, instead of 4! Hello Nancy, Severin was not born in Oslo . He was born in Romedal. Hedmark and named Syverin. He had 6 siblings. He emigrated from Oslo on the ship Thingvalla April 13. 1882 to Chicago and he was a tailor age 22. Below his record there is a Julia Olsen age 25 from Hxland in Akershus. It seems to me that if they travvelled together they married in Chicago. Her parents were Ole Christiansen and Ingeborg Johansdatter. Can anyone tell me if there is a 1664-1666 census for Akershus (Enebak) online. I can't seem to find it on the Digitalarkivet website. 19. postage to Norway question [0.966298]
Evening all, I have a question about postage to Norway. I know it's about 80 cents to mail a letter to Norway. Can I put three 37 cent stamps on the envolope, or do I need to buy a special stamp? I'd rather lose a few cents in extra postage than wait in the long line that constantly exists at my post office. Thanks, Joy

21. Where to begin- moved from Christiansund to Bardu [0.966298]
I have done pretty well with Paternal lines of my family who stayed nicely put in Troms for a century and a half, however, I'm having problems figuring out where to begin with another branch. My G-g-g grandmotehr Amalia Joachime Magdalena was bron July 27, 1835 in Christiansund Norway. Her parents were, I believe Joakem(Jochum) Stenersen and Anna Johana Myre. They moved to Troms when Amalia was 12 which would be 1847. She used stenersen as her maiden name after she migrated but it is, of course,
22. Re: Bakken Family Research [0.966298]
Norway, of course, was rife with Bakkens, well over 6,000 of them a century ago. One of my favorites was Ole Bakken, from Lfrdal, who in 1899 took his wife, 7 youngsters and his line, that of snedker, and emigrated to Northwood; Iowa, which I thought, "took some doing." I think one or two more little Bakkens made the scene in the States. One of the latter, Gena, was a friend of Sinclair Lewis when living in the Cities and went on to become a librarian, in spite of the latter's telling her she could do b

25. Re: Nickolina?? [0.966298]
Hi Jane, I received the words to Nikolina from a bery nice lady, Elin. It is the English translation. She mentioned where she got them, from the Norway List Archives, Jan 1999. In the archives I came up with a name, but the e-mail address must be outdated, so I Googled the name Ingabretsens and came up with an album by Paul och Mary, and the title of it is "Nikolina" and has quite a few Scandinavian songs in it... mostly Swedish songs. Is there anyone that was at the Minot Hxstfest that recalls what g
