2. Re: Grosse Ile [1]
Please forgive the botched version of the post I made regarding Grosse Ile. It did not transmit correctly and came out as Grosse Nle-something happened to the accent circonflex as it was sent. My name also did not come out correctly-I am not xxxx. My real nickname is XXXX-small letters a la e.e.cummings-and my real name, which I never, EVER use, is XXXXathia because one of my great-uncles was on the rescue ship of the Titanic. (I have also posted successfully recently with my real ISP- I was the one that ca
3. Re: JENSEN Surname and more [0.968832]
Hi Lister, Well...Jensen is a bit like Smith. There are quite a few of them - particularly in the past. Since the 1890s however, many have changed their names away from the system of being Jens' son = Jensen, and they have aquired farm names to which they were once related to. This seems to have happened with my gg who changed his name of Jens Jensen to Jens Dolva. This creates a bit of a bother in finding links when using names - but this line of the Jensens are in Telemark - Skien/Gjerpen area. Hope

7. Re: NORWAY history books and NORWAY movies and NORWAY white and yellow pages online [0.968832]
There are two wonderful books that 'fictionalise' a couple of eras of Norwegian history. "Christin Lavransdatter' bu Sigrid Undset (1922 and on). She won a Nobel prize for it in 1928. Then there is 'Seierherrene' by Roy Jacobsen (1988). Both are well worth reading. Hi Ruth I've upgraded Reunion to V8 and it's definitely worth it. There's a good daily email list called ReunionTalk that you can sign up for that deals mainly with the Reunion program and helps with all kinds of questions. Hi all, > . HINT: NEVER PULL YOUR > MONSTER CAN. Always push it. That doesn't work, either. I was pushing mine and when it took off I fell into the can. It was empty but it was the yard debris bin and smelled like a cow barn. I had two showers and shampoos that day within 2 hours - besides skinning up my hands and arms. My wrists looked like I had been in a cat fight. Daraleen

California yard waste containers are a power to be reckoned with when they are filled with dirt, or other heavy debris, and the driveway is inclined. I muscled ours to the top of the drive once and when it decided to head for the road at top speed I simply let go. It stopped in its tracks and from there on, we did a tandom zigzag maneuver as though we were leisurely skiing down a gentle slope. We both managed to reach the roadway unscathed, but just barely. Thank goodness my Norwegian mother taught me to s

I've found a possible to my Great Aunt in Norway, Helene Olsdtr, born 7 Jul 1850, Stenbreten Farm, Vinger Parish, Hedmark. She would be the only one of the family that is not located. Through LDS family search I found a Hellene Olsdtr, born 1850, Father Ole Olsen that married a Kjeld Olsen on 7 May 1873 in Stange. The 1900 census shows her and her family on the Slaafelt Farm, Stange, Hedmark http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/webcens.exe?slag=visbase&filnamn=f00417 &variabel=0&postnr=4984&fulle=tru

Hm, I looked at the Salsten-page, and found the name, but it remains obscure. "Negron" does not sound as either Norwegian or Lappish tp my ears, and still it occurs as a Norwegian Place-name ! I don't know anyhing about this, but maybe the explanation might be a misrepresentation in writing of something that sounded more or less lik "Negron" ? If so, a farmname that springs to mind is "Groa", sometimes written as "Groen", sometimes Grxen and sometimes Groven. If such a place was divided in two "bruk", the
