1. Maren Karine Enbrigtsdtr b.11 Sept 1828 Akershus [1]
I have found Maren Karine Embrigtsdtr marrying Carl Ambrosius Amundsen (Aarness) on 3 November 1850 in Nittedal, Akershus. It says her parents are Embrigt Jensen and Mari Olsdtr. When Embrigt Jensen died in 1867 in Iowa USA there were two beneficiaries for his estate. One was Maren Karine Embrigtsdtr and the other was Gulbrand Gulbranson (bn c1817) and his wife Sarah. How could this be??? Wouldn't Maren and Gulbrand have to have the same last name?? To complicate matters even more, I cannot find an Emb
2. Gulbrand Gulbrandsen Aarness b1817 Hakadalen - d1911 Decorah, Iowa [1]
I would like to find the parents for Gulbrand Gulbrandsen Aarness. I think I have the correct parents for Maren Embrigtsdtr Aarness. The facts I have for both of them are listed in the outline below. I think the most important fact is that Gulbrand's death certificate and Maren's death certificate BOTH say that Embrigt Aarness is their father. Both Maren and Gulbrand are named as Heirs when Embrigt died. Maren and Gulbrand live within yelling distance of each other from the time they come to America u
3. Elen Olsdtr b1745 Nord Trondelag [1]
I have Elen Olsdtr who was born 1745 and who turns up in the 1801 census as the widow of Roland Larsen and living with her son Lars Rolandsen-bn 1768. (57 Trondhiem Kolvereid Falderejd Falderejd 945 Ellen Olsdtr Huusbondens moder 55 Enke efter 1ste egteskab Har et aarlig vilkaar i gaarden K) I could not find her birth in the Vital Records at FamilySearch.org. There WAS an Elen Olesdatter bn 1736, but wouldn't a 10 year difference be a bit much to rationalize for a match? (Elen
4. Where is Omegn? [1]
I have an obit in Norwegian and an English translation of the obituary of Mrs. Jens J. Heimsnes that says "A great sadness dwelt at Ostrander and Omegn upon learning of the death of Mrs. Jens. J. Heimsnes on May 9, 1916." Where is Omegn? The same obit says that she was born in Washington Prairie, Iowa, and that Jens was from Kolvereid, Namdalen, Norway. Do either of these places give a clue to where Omegn might be? (JENS ALBERT MEIER (twin) JOHANNESEN b: 23 July 1848 in Kolveried, Nor-Trondelag NORWA

Thank you J.C. Spencer for the article on my grandfather. Without the help of listers like you, Geir, P. Risvold and others, my search for my Norwegian ancesters would have taken much, much longer. Every language carries its own ideas and each word has it's own field of meaning and carries its associated ideas that are unique to the language and its associated heritage. An obvious example is the
7. Re: Canadian Expeditionary Force - WW1 [0.968612]
My Grandfather emigrated with hisfamily through Canada to the US in 1906 at the age of six. There was some mistake of his age on the papers for him entering Canada. So, although he was too young for the US army, he "ran away and joined the Canadian Expeditionary Forces using the incorrect paperwork identifying him as old enough to serve. 10. Translation [0.968612]
Hi Listers The other day on Digitalarkivet I thought I had located the father and paternal grandparents and an uncle of one of my ancestors. The names fit and the dates looked right and I congratulated myself on a job well-done . . . too soon, maybe. The next day as I was looking at the report I had printed out I happened to look at the Yrke column. Instead of an occupation, this supposed father was listed as "Dum". When I looked Dum up I was disappointed to see it meant "Stupid". My question, then, i

14. Re: Hedmark Bygedok [0.968612]
I don't know if there is any connection but I have ancestors from the Bratfoss farm in Brandval, Hedmark named Bredesen. My 3rd great grandfather was Ole Bredesen, born in 1813. He had a brother Brede born in 1818. Ole came to Decorah, IA (Winneshiek County) in 1862 with his wife and children. There was an inquiry about Hauge Colleges and Red Wing Seminary. My Uncle went to Red Wing Seminary and my cousins found the records on his time there at the Goodhue Historical Society in Red Wing. They are on the web at http://www.goodhuehistory.mus.mn.us/ Go there and find a lot about the region, about the Seminary, about General Norstad, the NATO Commander, and about Judge Andreasen, a Judge at the Nuremburg Trials. Bnr 3 (Lnr 388) Lxberg sxndre, aka Rxnningen Ole O. Langkaas and his wife Olea, both from Holla, took over the running of this farm in 1920. The owner at the time, it seems from the very meager information in "Gjerpen bygds historie, Gerdshistorien", was sth. by the name of "Haukeraas bruk". As for information on farms and people in the Gjerpen-Solum area in general I would suggest to get in touch with the people in an organization by the name of "Grenland Fttehistorielag". There is no Appause in New York--possibly you mean Alplaus in Schenectady County? It has a good GenWeb site (http://www.schenectadyhistory.org/). If you can't find information there, I'd contatct the local historical society (listed on the web site). Are the ladies surnamed "Tideman" or "Torstensen"? Barbara Gunvaldsen (Fairfield, ME, USA)

Onkel Simon lives in Tromsx. They do not have facilities to do transplants in Tromsx so it was necessary to go to the Oslo Rikshospitalet. Because of the lack of necessary facilities in Tromsx they will keep him in Oslo for three months, not necessarily in the hospital but later in a recovery center associated with the hospital.
