Hi,
I have John Robert McKenzie supposed to have been born in Orange around
1878. If anyone else has McKenzies from Orange I would appreciate hearing
from them.
Regards,
Laraine Goodworth
Cathy,
Thanks for that info. I can see where Meadow Flat is now - Sunny Corner and
Dark Corner are just north of there. The William Shumack you mention would
have to be one of the ones I am after. However, there are three William
Shumacks that I am aware of. The little I have on them is listed below:
1st - William b. about 1804 in Mallow, Co. Cork, Ireland. Died about 1877
at Dark Corner near Bathurst, NSW. He was married to Elizabeth Doherty and
may have had daughters Ann and Isabella. He and Elizabeth

Hi,
Can anyone advise me if there is a lock-up/police station still standing in
this area from the 1850s era. My g.g. grandfather, Patrick Lawler was
policeman in the area for about 12 years, and listed residence variously as
Diamond Swamp etc...Does a village still exist there?
Thanks, Cathy

Does anyone have a copy of Vicki Powys' History of Sunny Corner? I am after
a copy and it is out of print. Also does anyone have the Sofala cemetery
transcripts? Does anyone know how the Montgomery family (Sunny Corner
butchers 1880s) got there and where father, George Montgomery came from?

Hi, I am new to your list and am researching ancestors from Bathurst.
James Mayberry MCALLISTER married Sarah Maria MARK(S) in Sydney 1842.
James was a Blacksmith. I don't know when they moved to Bathurst, but a number of children were born there and both James and Sarah died there. James in 1873 and Sarah in 1878. One daughter Jane married Edward WILCOX (WILLCOCK) in Bathurst and died there in 1880. Edward was the son of a Blacksmith JAMES WILLCOCK (WILCOX). Durham Street and Russell Street are ment

Hello, Carol,
I don't know the particular HERBERT you are asking about, but I wondered if
the John HERBERT on the First Fleet was an ancestor?
If so, do you have any information on earlier, English, family?
Our HERBERT did not arrive in NSW till 1849, from Gloucestershire.

Dear Jean,
We go camping in the Oberon area a bit and the name Burruja could be now
called BURRAGA. It is a small township, from my map, about 30kms south of
Rockley. Homeward Bound could have been the name of a property, in the the
area, as Oberon is not that far away either, Suggest you try the local
public library at Oberon.(very friendly and helpful staff) they might be
able to help. even the council might have a record of old land holdings etc.
I have a record of my great grandparents being married at
Researching William Nathaniel Moore born Narrabri 1884 parents William
Lawrence Moore and Frances Sellio. I would like to hear from descendants
or anyone researching this family. regards Carol

They married into WALSH, HUNT, WHITE, DAVIS, WARD and MINGAY families.

The book is titled 'Please Spell That Name Again'. It is on the Bargwanna Family from Cornwall to Australia.
The Bargwanna name is still quite strong in Orange and I held a rather large family reunion in Orange in January of 1989.
The book normally costs $27 plus $7.00 postage, but in most cases I am asking just for the postage.
Kind Regards

The Orange cemetery MI's were indexed many years ago and a transcript is in
the Orange City Library. The Orange Family History Group has just finished
doing an updated transcription of the Orange Cemetery MI's. This is to be
published soon. The Orange Family History Group also has a great service
where they will send you all the information on a surname for $10 plus a
business sized, stamped self-addressed emvelope. You get listings from
BMS's, parish registers, newspapers, etc. Great service. Their n
