online the actually pages of the 1843-44 New York City directory for all
the Smiths and Smyths plus extracts for assorted Smiths for New York
City directories for 1816-29, including a few deaths mentioned the first
part of 1816.

In 1900 Troy NY was still an industrious town, plentiful with jobs.
Many people from NYC and towns along the Hudson River went there to
work. My own family are found in NYC, Brooklyn, plus the counties of
Orange, Westchester, and Albany and Troy in Rensselaer Co in different
census years depending where they went to find work. It makes for a lot
of fun when we try to follow them around 100 or so years later :-)
