To all you wonderful people that have responded to the "Newburgh address" I
would like to ask a question. Do any of you know where 256 Van Ness St is
and what is there now.?. My great grandfather Henry Muhlemann and his first
wife Jane
lived there with two sons , William and Gottleib Muhlemann . Also. does
anyone know where I can find a directory for this city for the years of
1879/80.? Thank you all very much. Lena
Try the Newburgh Free Library for copies of city directories.

Hope this helps.

I am working on the WALTON Catholic line from England-Ireland to PA and NY
but not have much success finding them or finding the connection from the WALTON
Catholic line to the WALTON non-Catholic lines.
Seems most of the WALTON lines I am researching first settled in NEPA and
settled in Hawley and surrounding areas in Wayne Co; others moved to the
Scranton, Lackawanna Co areas. The Wayne County group moved with the canal to
Roundout/Kingston area of New York where some moved to NY City and others to
Oops, Barbara,
I confused you with an earlier email! Do you remember the Commodore,

Thanks, Marge. That's what Dorothy said, too, so I've really learned something today.

Here a neat page with links to many NY state naturalization records:

I did a Whitepages.com Reverse Address lookup on 256 Van Ness in 12550
and came up with nothing.
I can't say for that exact address but a lot of the south side of Van
Ness is parking lots or delivery areas for the businesses on B'way.
Next time I am up that way, I'll take a look.

Oh my goodness Glen,, You and all the rest have been so great about this
information.. So my ggrandpa was in a hospital when he died then, by the
sounds of things... I am trying to put things together in this family and
have not had much luck in the 5 years I have been looking,, I guess I have
been on the wrong lists .. Thank you all so very very much for your
responses... Marlene
Hi Margaret.
Thanks so much for this.
I don't know which church is most likely, but there are some intriguing clues here. When
my husband's ggrandfather moved away from downtown Newburgh in the early 1900s, he joined
the Meadow Hill Church, which was the successor to the Assoc. Ref. Church of Newburgh
(which I've learned was an offshoot of the Presbyterian Church, not Dutch Reformed as I'd
assumed). He'd been brought up in Canada by a Scottish uncle, who was Presbyterian.

Stephanie, I am planning to go to the CA Library in downtown Sacramento
some time this month and will glady do a lookup for you. They have all
the CA births, deaths and marriages on fiche by alph order...I have put

Hi Loreen, I live in Sacramento and the library is only a light rail
away...last time I was there which was about a year ago, they were still
available, what they removed, I believe, are the records that were on a
cd and for sale, plus I believe Rootsweb had them on line. They didn't
have a cut off date like NYS has, so because of the stealing of people's
identity problems, the law was passed to protect the living were in the
database. I have other research to do in the CA archives which is in

Hi, Joy,
I still haven't gotten over to the Newburgh Library but I did get to
the Moffat this week and I looked in Ruttenber & Clark's 1881 History

In the Town of Hamptonburgh history the following churches are listed
First Presbyterian Church of Hamptonburgh -- est. 1765 or 67, Route

Started out as Associate Church of Neelytown then was the Associate
Reformed Church of Hamptonburgh.

Hi Pat, I see it pays to read your signature. Or remember what I read
before. I would be interested to know what you find. Everything that was on
line in December and January was panic. People went to vital records offices
to access death records and were turned away, so they said. Now for deaths
the California list I get only posts obits, "maiden names deleted per
California law".

Marlene,
St. Luke's is the hospital in Newburgh. Its first location was on
Liberty Street in what is now the Elk's Lodge (155 Liberty). It is
just north of Broadway. I don't know if there was any other hospital
or infirmary in the city in your time frame but as Howard suggested,
ask a librarian!
I mapped 138 Broadway Newburgh NY on Mapquest.com. If you click on the
big map button near the upper right of the map and zoom in as far as
you can, all the addresses you mention are visible and you can s

The price of vital records certificates is definitely going up on August 1. And as I thought, the price rise will occur in every community of the state. For some reason, the state controls that price statewide in all jurisdictions. The new price will be $22.
The New York Dept. of Health Vital Records is moving their office on about August 5. If I understood correctly, they are not op
Hi Margaret,
I remember both the soda fountain and the Commodore, we used to go there for
Christmas and Easter candy.
I was born in Newburgh in 1922 and grew up there. Lots of good memories of
it. It was a nice place to grow up in.

Joy, thank you very much for your respond,, I am hoping to catch the eye of
