This is a mailing list versus a website. I am the list admin and the
list has been slow, not many posts lately. So why not tell us why you
joined...are your researching an ancester from the Hudson River area?

You are good to go then. You can go to the DAR web site. It will provide
you with all the info you need and locate a DAR chapter in your area. That
chapter will have an individual that will help you in filling out forms,
etc. for membership.
Bill, How early was your McClain family there? Did they ever spell it

Because of the success of another interactive census project I have on
my website, I launched a similar site for the Troy 1855 New York State
census. Many of us who have viewed this census on film, have copied
and/or printed sections of it that included our surnames. I have done
this for my Campbells, O'Connor/Connors and Flynn surnames. Since I
haven't completely figured out which are mine, I hand copied all
instances of the surnames and put them in an Excel database. I bet as

This isn't strictly a Hudson Valley link, but several people have posted
about ancestors from Ireland, so I thought I'd pass it along. If
nothing else, take a look at the Londonderry Voters Lists at the end of
the scroll-down list of links. The comments in the margins are priceless!

Check to see if Norton Firewall has a "smart recommentation" methord that will authorized "safe" sites and only ask you about questionable or unknown sites.
I know Mcafee Firewall did and it made installing and using much simpler.

to qualify to be a member of the DAR you will need to be a direct
descendent of the patriot, he can't be an uncle or cousin, must be a great
whatever grandfather.
Carol,
If the messages says your email could not be delivered and you don't know the people, than hit DELETE without opening them. Do not take a chance on them being a virus
I hope you and everyone else has a good anti-virus and keeps it current. A good personal firewall also helps. In the case of the latest Sasser virus, an update to Windows XP is available from Microsoft to close the loophole used by the virus.

Have you found the family in the 1880 census? That would give you the town.
Then you would research to find what churches were in that town. Columbia is
still a rather rural town, Even the largest city, Hudson is not a large city.
Many early church records have been published or microfilmed by LDS.

Hi,
My family would have migrated through the state of New York probably before
1850 and no I doubt
the variations of spelling the name would have included McLean.
Thank you,

Bill,
As was pointed out, this is a discussion list, not a web site. People put out queries for there own brick walls and research questions. Queries are answered in responce to specific questions. With discussion lists, you get the most value when you post questions and queries and respond to others queries. Posting general information that you find that maybe of interest and value to others is also done here.
