Does anyone have them? Looking for evidence of 1855 naturalizations for BERNARD and ANN MCMAHON KAVANAGH (living in Port Jefferson in 1880) or their presumed son CHARLES CAVANAUGH (living in New Windsor, NY in 1870 and 1880). Charles was one of my mother's grandfathers. Bernard and Ann (as well as 3-year-old Charles) MAY have come over on the ship EMPIRE STATE in 1850. The link between this Bernard and my Charles is tentative at this time. "PRO ARIS ET PRO FOCIS" --------------------------------- Do

7. [NY IRISH] Rensselaer Co. NY, Naturalizations [1]
First of all, I see that I had two numbered 42, should be 42 and 42a. Then I had two numbered 43, should be 43 and 44. Sorry if this caused any confusion, I am out of practice...but getting into the groove again pretty quickly. I now have years Aug 1853 through Dec 1856 on line and Oct 16 to Dec 1884 on line. You can access them from the URS under my name, under New York State, click on Troy, they are under Naturalizations. I also have them on the Rensselaer County website at: http://www.rootsweb.

Was wondering if anyone knows how I can narrow down the location....Can you tell which Catholic Parishes would be close from this info? Or can you tell me where I can find go to find out a likely parish for this Irish Catholic Family. Are there directories available for NYC for this time period? And if so, where would one find that

Hi Pat, I am housebound in Orangevale, CA. So close and yet so far. If you have the time in your busy schedule, I would really appreciate if you would try to find my gr. grandmother death record or obituary. Unfortunately, I only know the year she died and not month, day etc. Her name was Elizabeth Pee GLASSON (nee Permewan) Died 1875, age 25. Husband: George Glasson. Birth year 1850, Birthplace St. Buryan, Cornwall, England. Arrived in San Francisco directly from Penzance, Cornwall in late June,
14. [NY IRISH] New York Trees ( not family trees!) [1]
Hello! I'm hoping someone can help me. This isn't genealogy, though I guess it's loosely connected in that I noticed these trees last week while I was on my way to do genealogical research in NYC. While I was on the train from Philadelphia through New Jersey & into NYC I kept seeing trees with lots of purplish flowers growing all over. Does anyone know what they are? I know there are a lot of native New Yorkers on this list so I thought I would try asking. I haven't been able to find any
15. [NY IRISH] Spinning Wheel books? [1]
Just learned of a new source book that I haven't seen mentioned and wonder if you have heard of it. Apparently it was available on permanent loan in the my closest LDS in the past. There was a program in the late 1700s to encourage linen production in Ireland, and therefore the growing of flax. If you grew so many acres (or whatever measurement was used) you were entitled to a spinning wheel, or maybe more than one, and the names of the people who were given the spinning wheels were recorded in a book.

from the Chronicles of Celtic Folk Customs by Brian Day book.... CELTIC. After the decline of the Whitsun Ales this became a day for picnics, fairs, games and sports, although some organised events were much like the Ales of old. Latterly these events tended to move the Late Spring Bank Holiday. The Church originally et aside Whit Monday and Tuesdays as holidays, and the warm weather combined with the fact that Whit lay conveniently between the ploughing of fields and their sowing, and the forthcom

Pat, I wish you had lived in San Francico when all the cemeteries were moved out of town & county to Colma. (Except the Mission Delores Cemetery which is mostly early padres and priests) The deal was that this large project was to involve identifying and allowing the deceased dignity. Record keeping became very inaccurate. All the grave markers were not transferred due to the weight. Headstones and tombstones were used to build the sea wall at Ocean Beach and pthers for landfill at each side of the

Hi, Okay, thanks so much for the replies. You go to www.familysearch.org and go to Search, and then Family History Library Catalog, and then you can search by Place, Surname, Author, Subject, Call Number, Film/Fiche, and Title. I do most of my searches by place. Anyhow, then you take the numbe
