Hello all,
I am searching for information about my great-grandmother, Ellen
McGREEVY Sparks. She was born in Ireland about 1842, and came to the
States through Ellis Island (according to family lore) about 1859-1863.
Ellen married Abel Brewster Sparks at David's Island on August 15, 1863.
She died in Kingsville, Ashtabula County, Ohio in 1903.
I'd dearly love to find out where in Ireland Ellen was born, and who her
parents and siblings were. The information above has come from my
great-grandfather's
Hi listers, here is a link for a search engine. It enables you to find what county a city is in, in all states, and also lists the cities in the counties. You can search by city or county, and it's very comprehensive. I just found out a city I was looking for is actually split between 2 counties. Enjoy! Kitty

To Kitty/Bill Jarrett -
I'm wondering whether this handbook has any further useful information on my Irish-born (probably North Ireland) great-grandfather, Robert Wilson (1825?-189-?), who was censused and directoried with his family in 1860 at 165 East 29th St in Manhattan, and is in the 1870 and 1880 censuses, and in Brooklyn directories from 1867 through 1897 at 34 Kosciuzko Street in Brooklyn???????? His wife's name was Mary Margaret, and two of his sons, William and Joseph, were living with him until

I don't have time right now because we are moving within the next couple of
weeks, but as soon as we get settled, I'll start back into my genealogy. We
have Costellos in our family tree. From Ireland but originally from Spain.
Most settled in the mid-west. I'll send you what I have sometime in
September.

On Aug. 1, 1915, the funeral of Fenian Jeremiah O'Donovan Rossa was held
before a huge crowd at Glasnevin Cemetery in Dublin. Rossa's body had
been returned from New York where he died June 30. He had been exiled by
the British for his Fenian activities in 1871. While in exile, Rossa had
managed to alienate many of his former Fenian colleagues, including his
good friend John Devoy, with his uncompromising advocacy of violence to
end British rul
I have a photo of my granparents attending the Cork Ball in NY. It's around 1915. Anyone know where we could access information about these balls, where they were held, etc . I have another one taken at the Thomas Farley Association, but again no leads, only that they were in Manhattan. That one is a group picture and it is packed! Wouldn't it be great if some of our lister's relatives were in the picture? Kitty

I see you are in England, Steve, so this suggestion might be hard for
you to do. But, I would look at newspapers for this incident. If you
have an LDS Family History Center near you, you could get access to
newspapers.

Dear Barbara,
I live not too far from Newburgh, NY. And my Irish relatives were in
Haverstraw, NY just up the river a little ways and in Peekskill and Verplanck
right across the river.
You will see that Newburgh is a river town that time has ignored.
There are beautiful remnants of magnificent victorian and brick homes on tree
lined and red brick streets!! There is a fun "barge restaurant" on the
waterfront at the renovated city dock. You can also take a Hudson River cruise that

on your trip.

Great site about naturalization--it explained a lot of what I am finding
about Irish relatives who went to Canada and then came to US about 1890.
What about the foreign born minor children of someone who was naturalized
about 1903? Did they become citizens if their father did--or did they have
to wait until they were 14 and apply themselves? Eileen Bogdanoff

Thank you! Someone else mentioned the paper and I have e-mailed them. Called
the funeral home and it kind of sounded like they didn't want to be bothered
and have not returned my call-Will write them in a day or so. Was not able
to find info about the cemetery but thanks to you I will give them a call. I
am going to have to have some siblings names or parents to prove this one is
really mine.
Thanks
