If you go to the Catholic Church website for NYC you may be able to figure out what you need. The address is http://www.ny-archdiocese.org/
Hope this helps.

Hi All,
This may be a silly question, but here goes. It seems that every time I
attempt to view the original page(s) of a ship's manifest for a particular
passenger, the link takes me to the second page of the manifest. No amount
of searching brings up the first page which has details such as the
passenger's name.
What am I doing wrong?

I'd love to hear a solution but I wonder if this is Ellis Island's way
of getting you to buy a copy.

Your welcome, I have no time line to speak of. My family was involved in
the building from when they came during the famine years (1847) until they
became "contractors" and built the city hall in Kingston, NY. I had family
in Westchester Co. Ulster Co. and Rennselear Co. all either boatmen or stone
workers. I am sure that Hudson in Columbia Co. would also have had their
stone workers as the RR was on both sides of the Hudson River. Good luck in
your search. Judy Christopher

If you have access to the 1870 census can you check to see if there is a
James and Margaret McVeigh living in Newburgh, NY (Orange County). They are
my g-grandparents and I'm trying to find the year James died. I think it
would have been between 1870 and 1878. Margaret died in 1893. Thanks for any
help you can give.

Michael REGAN came here from Ireland approximately 1860. In the NY State
1865 census he is listed as an alien, and in 1875 as naturalized.
Where would I look for a naturalization record for him from that pre-1906
date? He seems to have come directly to Rockland County, NY with three
young sons. If he was naturalized before 1872, say, I believe all three
sons would have been minors. Doesn't that mean that they would
automatically have become citizens when he was naturalized - or did that

Greetings!
I am looking for any information on C(K)atherine Haggerty of either New York County or Kings
County. She married William J. Lakey at St. Joseph's Church (Washington Place & 6th Ave.,
NYC) on 1/25/1905. She had a brother named Russell Haggerty who served in the Navy during
WWI. Their Mother's maiden name was Russell and she was from Drogheda, County Louth. Don't
know her name. Most likely Catherine and Russell were born in U.S., but census one year
states Russell was born in Ireland. Not so,

Nancy, I wish I knew what this refers to? If you changed the subject,
we might be able to help you. Those on the digest format of the list
and others, when you hit reply, you get a subject like what is the
subject on this message. I know I sometimes forget to change it also,
but it would help the reader figure out what the message is about.

Kristin,
I believe the woman who started the union in Troy was Kate Mullaney (whose
house Hilary Clinton visited). I remember too that visit by Hilary to Troy.

LIMERICK
The Protestant Bishop of Limerick, Dr Graves, is suffering from a severe
attack of bronchitis.
On the morning of February 12th, a shocking case of suicide occurred in
Toomondgate, Limerick. A van man named Daniel McNamara, in the
employment of Mr. Bourke had been engaged in business in the country,
and returned home on the previous evening, apparently suffering from the
effects of drink. His wife left the house, and went to a neighboring
house to procure some beef tea, and when she return

All the info I had for those before & after "Mc" surnames should be posted in

IRELAND. This was a so-called 'gale day', when tenancies began or
ended. At the beginning a half year's rent fell due. Hiring fairs
enabled farmers and householders to hire labourers and servants. They
lined up with trade symbols. Lettings of grazing and meadow land were
available. Turbaries would be available for rent so that turf-cutting
could start. In Ulster these activities were done on 12th May for a
time after 1752 when the rest of Ireland adopted the Gr
