Hi Al,
Good question. There are 153 members on this list (which was just started
on October 10, 2000).
I feel quite sure that some of the inactivity is due to the Holiday Season,
which we are still in the midst of :-).
Sooooo, why don't we start some activity on the list and get some queries
going. Perhaps we could all let each other know which families we are
searching and what dates.
My roots in Long Island go back to the RAYNOR Family. My great grandfather
was Alonzo RAYNOR (1843-1919), who was t
I hope each of you had a wonderful Christmas!
This is the time of year for me to remind all list members that within the
next few days or weeks we will see many "newbies" on the web and on the
lists.
Please remember before you jump on someone for a stupid question that at one
time we were all newbies and we all made mistakes.
Please exercise a bit of tolerance for these new people and offer them help
rather than
criticism.

Hi folks,
Good to see some more activity on the list. I am looking for any
information on COOPERS on Long Island, particularly Michael COOPER born
28 December 1783 in Hamstead Long Island. He married an Elizabeth
STRAUT, born 1786 and fathered Gilbert M. COOPER in 1806. Gilbert later
moved to NJ but I'm not sure exactly when. He married Catherine VAN
ORDEN, also born in NY. Their daughter Elizabeth Cooper, born 1840 in
NJ, was my great great grandmother.
Any info on these COOPERS or related names and any
I recently subscribed to this least. It was on Christmas day as a matter of fact. I have never seen any posting except from the List supervisor. I wondered if there is some reason I have not seen anything at all on the Long Island list and yet have seen many items on the Queens list and the Bronx list.

Hi - someone else probably has sbetter informatin for yu, but a suggestion if
they don't: Look for Sanford Insurance maps - They can usually be found in
University Libraries. You might use a search engine, too. These maps show
streets, and houses or businesses or whatever are in each block for each year.
Hope this helps. Marian

I am inquiring for information for:
Henry A Koller, married to Eunice Wood Stimus.
This event took place approx 1905, as The first birth took place sometime

Hello everyone
This is my first posting on this list. Could anyone tell me the best way (not
using Social Security Index, already tried) to find my gt aunt Mary Hardie or
Salisbury who was living at 42 West St Middle Island in the 1960s. She
emigrated from England around 1920, and was born in Barrow in Furness 1880.
Thanks in advance

Dear Kristin
All I know is that my Grand dad lived at #1 Jerusalem Rd, Hempstead, from the mid 20's
to mid 30's with a beautiful and mysterious young lady, and I'd like to know who this
partner was. His 1st wife had died in 1916, he than did the trenches in WW1 and came back
to settle in LI. Lots of talk in the family, few real facts. I understand she died about
1936. I would like to find her name and maybe get a death cert. I feel that at that date
it was open country, maybe even farm land. I don't kno
