2. [NY-Mil] World War II Veteran [1]
List members, I have been trying to get records about my uncle's war service from the National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis. They require that you be a next of kin. In a letter, I pointed out to them that he died in 1946, never married and his parents and siblings are all dead (which I can document). Thus, based on their requirements, nobody can ever get information on him. They ignored this and just replied that nephews aren't entitled to information. Can anyone suggest what I should d
3. [NY-Mil] Gettysburg photo ID help needed [1]
Fellow Listers -- I have a scan of a photo taken at Culp's Hill, Gettysburg battlefield, showing a reunion of veterans of Greene's Brigade (60th, 78th, 102d, 137th, & 149th NYSV). So far, I haven't been able to figure out a date for the photo. Any assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated. The image can be viewed at: http://library.morrisville.edu/local_history/sites/3d-brigade-reunion.html Thank you, Sue Greenhagen, Technical Services Librarian SUNY Morrisville College Library Morrisvill

7. Re: [NY-Mil] NY 10 Reg Priors Reg. Seth Perry [1]
Captain Seth Perry shows up as Saratoga in the 1810 census with also the possibility of Tioga Cayuga, Jefferson Counties, but it leans heavily towards Saratoga. There were 1940 showing enlisted in Lt. Colonel John Perry's Regiment. The 4 majors listed were from Schoharie(1), Montgomery(2),Washington County(1). 22 Captains. Delaware(3); Schoharie(4); Montgomery(3);Saratoga(6);Misc(6) There was also a Captain Josiah Perry, and Captain Seth Perry Jr. all appear to be from Saratoga. ----- Original Message ---

9. [NY-Mil] Re: 2nd Reg't., War of 1812 [1]
Hi Listers, Does anyone have an ancestor who served in the 2nd Regt. (Delamater's), New York Militia in the War of 1812? I would be interested in hearing from anyone who has knowledge of this unit. I found an online listing for a John Shons, a private, in that company. In "Index of Awards on Claims of the Soldiers of the War of 1812," I found a listing for a John Shonts, Albany. He rreceived 23.50 for clothing and equipment. Jackie Reiss

Here is an explanation of info that NARA will release under the Privacy Act and under the Freedom of Information Act: http://www.archives.gov/facilities/mo/st_louis/military_personnel_record s/general_public.html The NARA web site states that 80% of the Army files were destroyed in the fire, there is no mention of particular initials: http://www.archives.gov/facilities/mo/st_louis/military_personnel_record s/fire_1973.html It also states that 75% of Air Force files were destroyed, those with names in al
11. [NY-Mil] Question re WWI Draft Registration [1]
I have tried so far with no luck to get a copy of my grandfather's WWI draft registration from NARA, East Point, GA. I have his registration certificate, which is a card that states that he was in compliance with the law and had duly registered on 5 June 1917. The only information on the card is his name, address. precinct, county and state. My question regards the meaning of the word "precinct" in the context of this card. I'm almost certain it is not the draft board number. Does anyone know or have an

According to the NARA site (http://www.archives.gov/facilities/mo/st_louis/military_personnel_recor ds/standard_form_180.html), you must use SF180 if you are not next-of-kin. There is no indication of what records are available to non-next-of-kin. Note that most WWII service records were destroyed in a 1973 fire but parts can be reconstructed. -----Original Message----- From: RWBOYLAN@aol.com [mailto:RWBOYLAN@aol.com] Sent: Tuesday, March 18, 2003 9:44 AM To: NY-Military-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [NY-Mil]

The subject message was distributed via the list yesterday. Readers should be aware that it contains links which will install a program known as "hotbar". While some may consider hotbar to be a desktop aid, others believe it is "spyware". Nevertheless, it is aggressive in trying to install itself once you click on one of the links given in the subject message. It is also a little misleading, implying that it is a Microsoft validated upgrade to Outlook. It may also pose some difficulty to remove it for

Found a John Prior in Saratoga listed in the Town of Greenfield in Saratoga in the correct time frame, but don't know if he is the Colonel John Prior as the listing for him is prior to 1812. The Perry name is listed as an early settler in the Town of Day in Saratoga County in early 1800, but no given names were listed. ----- Original Message ----- From: To: Sent: Thursday, March 13, 2003 6:24 PM Subject: [NY-Mil] NY 10 Reg Priors Reg.
