With your encouragement I tried it again and got it to work. The first
time I tried it I never saw the page with the vertical listing. That I can
handle. It was the WebCat, I believe, page where I was given a message that I
needed to start a new session and then whichever button I pushed -- I got
nothing.
Today, however, I saw the vertical listings you spoke of and only once
dead-ended into WebCat.
Do you think it knows I'm an out-of-stater?
Thanks,

I attempted to use the URL received to access the NYS Library's newspaper
collections catalog, I could not get past the two introductory screens and
received no information.
The URL I used was:
http://www.nysl.nysed.gov/index.html
The directions said to click on Collections. That was not an option I
received.
What did I do wrong???
Thanks

Hi Ruth,
This is very true. I tried to get my g grandfather's death certificate in
Ontario
and was told they couldn't find one. After many years, I was looking
through
an old newspaper and in a tiny notice, there was an item that my g
grandfather
had died while he and his wife were visiting in New York State.

Hello group,
I am researching the Miller family who lived in Albany. Patriarch Andrew
Miller had migrated from Holland to Allentown Pennsylvania in 1773, serving
in George Washington's army at Yorktown. Andrew was 17 years old when he
immigrated. He was mustered out at Albany in 1783 where he had a tailor
shop. He married abt. 1785 a woman named Catherine (last name unknown.) They
had 6 children of which three survived and were raised in Albany. Francis
Thomas b. abt. 1790, James b. abt. 1797, and Sarah b.
My husband and I are involved in researching Co. Galway, IRL and I just
thought I'd mention that variations of your surname are popping up with
increasing frequency. When you get beyond Albany and want to hope the
Atlantic, please contact me. We have a website (non-commericial, just
genealogy).

Hey Darin,
Would you scan your research for the names Prophet, Proffit, Proffitt,
Margaret Van Rensselaer and Rev. Nicholas Jones.
The Prophets (sp?) would have been in the mid 1800s and the Van
Rensselaer/Joneses would have been in the late 1700s.
Thanks a bunch!
Ruth
