Does anyone have anything on Stephensville, NY??
As near as I can tell, it was located just west of Coeymans Hollow in
Albany county... and it may actually be the Alcove Reservoir now.
Looking for when the town was formed.... any info on Churches that may have
been there, etc..
thanks,
Green Island is no longer an island, as has already been pointed out. Most of the islands in the Albany area are gone. The dredgings to deepen the Hudson, in order to allow international shipping, had to go somewhere. They were put between islands and the river shore. Green Island is north of Albany, and is rather near Lock 1, the beginning of the Erie Barge Canal. Dredgings may have been put next to it, although a Green Island official could not confirm that a few months ago. In fact, he disagreed wi
Here is what I have:
Stephensville was named after Archibald Stephens and after his death the name
was changed to Alcove. This was in a New York or Albany County History Book
which I can verify if you need me to. Archibald Stephens Sr. is an ancestor
of mine and died in 1836.

Looking for descendants of John O'Connor/Connors b 1880 Troy NY and wife
Nora, b 18851 Ireland. Children included: Richard & James b 1913, John
b 1915, Stephen b 1920, Mary b 1923.
I found them living in Manhattan in the 1920 census and in Albany in the
1930 census. The 1920 census had all the children born in Troy but I
have been unable to find them in the Troy 1910 or 1915 censuses. I have
also found them using both Connors and O'Connors.
John Sr. is my grand uncle, brother to my grandfather.
Hi List,
Does anyone have information on the Charles Steller household in Albany
(probably West Albany) for the 1900-1920 period?
Thanks in advance.

Mr. Cross,

being confused again. Alas, not an unfamiliar state.
I have spent most of my free hours today eyeball deep in

No, they weren't all removed to Albany Rural. From what I understand, the
majority of them went to Albany Rural, but some went to St. Agnes, and
others to different cemeteries such as Prospect Hill in Guilderland. If
there were interested family members, they were given a choice.
Off hand I don't know about a Baptist Church that still exists that was
there in 1850, but I can try to find out.

I have just added the Albany City cemetery removals done in 1868.
These were sometimes referred to as the State Street Cemeteries, but this
was not the first major removals project.

I am doing research on the Gardenier surname in New York State. From Gardenier came Gardinier, Gordinier, Gaudineer and many, many other spellings. If the surname begins with Gard-, Gaud-, or Gord-, and ends in -ier, -eer, -ear, or -yer then it is very likely to be descended from Gardenier. I am interested in people who had any of these spellings as long as the person was born with the name or married someone with the name.
New York State has vital records certificates available beginning in 1880 (death
Hi, All
This message about Green Island is correct about where Green Island is
located. It was an island in the Hudson River; I think that now it isn't an
island any longer, that it's become part of the mainland on the west side of
the river. It is indeed closely associated with Troy, and Troy City
Directories for some decades included a subsection on Green Island. So I can
see why you would think that Green Island might be part of the City of Troy.
HOWEVER, Green Island is in ALBANY County, NY, whereas T
Chuck, under "Personal Description" across the top, there are seven columns.
Column six says "No. of children born to this mother". Column seven says

Hope this helps!

Marita,
In 1880, Public School #15 was at 203 Hudson Avenue in Albany. I imagine that is the school you are talking about. This should be in the downtown area of Albany, but possibly several blocks from the Hudson River. East Albany, Greenbush and Bath-on-the-Hudson were the three villages/hamlets that merged to form the present city of Rensselaer which is on the opposite (east) shore of the Hudson River from Albany. From there, Kinderhook Lake would be about 18-20 miles. Even today, Albany has no tra

Hi List,
Does anyone know where I can view a copy of the Cohoes High School yearbook for 1926? I already checked the Cohoes Library. Their web site shows that they do have copies of yearbooks but when I got there I was told they do not. I then went to the Jr High School on Columbia Street which used to hold both Jr and Sr High. They had no records so I went to the high school. They only go back to 1938. I am looking for one particular individual so I don't need to own the book, only view, and possibly co
